Arts in the Cathedral is pleased to announce the winners of their 2006 =
Young Artists Competition who were selected by competitive audition =
based on technical skill, musicality and stage presence. Judges included =
members of the Cleveland Orchestra.=20

All of these outstanding high school performers will be featured on the =
Young Artists Showcase on Sunday March 19 at 2:30 p.m. at Church of the =
Saviour in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  In addition to the recital, each =
winner will receive a cash prize of $150.

The six winners are pianist Konrad Binienda from Akron who will play =
Chopin's Mazurka in G Major; cellist Michael Kaufman from Shaker Heights =
who will perform the first movement of Beethoven's Sonata in C Major Op. =
102 No. 1; harpist Nisa Marks from Cleveland Heights playing  Pescetti's =
Sonata in C minor; violist Christina Spackey from Cleveland Heights who =
will play Bach's Suite III, flutist Jessica Sindell from Pepper Pike who =
will play Poem by Charles Griffes; and pianist Vidya Sundaram from Stow =
who will perform Meditation by Tchaikovsky.

Arts in the Cathedral is celebrating its tenth season of providing =
cultural events and classes for the greater Cleveland community.  A part =
of Church of the Saviour, Arts in the Cathedral's mission is to honor =
the Creator through creativity in music, drama, needlework, dance and =
the visual arts.

The Young Artists Competition was begun in 2004 as a way to provide =
public recognition and encouragement for serious young musicians in =
northern Ohio. Judith Higbee, Director of Music at Church of the Saviour =
remarks, "There are so many fine high school musicians practicing away =
at home, in private lessons and their school ensembles, but they often =
don't get a chance to perform in public and receive the kind of =
recognition given to participants in sports and other activities."

A special Artists' Reception following the Young Artists Showcase will =
coincide with the opening of the Viktor Schreckengost Centennial Exhibit =
at Church of the Saviour.  Works featured in this exhibit will include =
the original painting From the East as well as prints of The Apostles =
and St. Frances.  Some prints will be available for purchase.

The Young Artists Showcase, Artists' Reception and the Schreckengost =
Centennial Exhibit are free and open to the public.

Church of the Saviour is located at 2537 Lee Road in Cleveland Heights, =
one block North of Fairmount Blvd.  The church has plenty of free =
lighted parking and is handicapped- accessible.=20
