A new musical by Akron native Charles Myricks, Jr. blends Gospel, R&B
and Jazz to deliver a powerful story of transformation, reconciliation
and hope in Paul: A Musical Journey coming to the Akron Civic Theatre on
Good Friday, April 14 at 8 p.m.

Following its inaugural year that included more than 25 performances in
Akron and Cleveland, Paul: A Musical Journey is an energetic new musical
taken directly from the New Testament and focuses on one of the original
founders of Christianity, the Apostle Paul. With music and lyrics by
Myricks, the inspirational musical takes audiences on Paul's lifelong
personal transformation from murderer to martyr, culminating with his
conversion on the road to Damascus.=20

While the story has its roots in the history of Christianity, the
musical's message is universal. "Paul's story is so powerful, and its
messages are no less important today than they were 2000 years ago.
Maybe more so," said Myricks in a recent interview. Through the power of
music and voice, Myricks spins Paul's tale in a harmonious celebration
of faith and inspiring testimony with a message of love, understanding,
humility and forgiveness. The musical features 24 original songs that
merge many musical styles - from tender ballads to soaring gospel.=20

Paul: A Musical Journey has played to strong reviews and has
consistently received standing ovations since its opening in early 2005.
"I am so very thankful to the cast and all of our friends who have given
so much to help us to achieve the success we have had so far," said
Myricks. "We started out with a goal that seemed crazy - reaching
Broadway; well, that doesn't seem so crazy now. We know we've still got
a lot of ground to cover, but if we keep working hard, with God's help
anything is possible!"

=20

The cast of Paul: A Musical Journey features both vocalist and musicians
from the region and the country, including members of Myricks' gospel
group Divine Hope and Chicagoans Wilette Blakely and Erick Townsend, who
performs the lead role of Paul. Divine Hope is a leading gospel group in
Akron and throughout the region. A winner of the 1992 National New
Artist Search, Divine Hope was featured in the original Gospel Meets
Symphony concerts in Akron where Myricks played an integral part in
launching and establishing the highly successful concerts. In addition,
2004 marked Myricks' collaboration with the Ohio Ballet with the
production of a new ballet, "Transformation!"
