Oakmont, PA, April 2006 -
=20
Director Adam Rapp, whom The New York Times has described as "a =
playwright
of obvious promise and carefully honed gifts," will be on hand to =
introduce
the Pittsburgh premiere of his feature filmmaking debut, Winter Passing, =
on
April 3 at The Oaks Theater. =20
=20
Rapp is best known as a distinguished playwright, whose projects include
"Nocturne," "Blackbird," "Stone Cold Dead Serious," and "Gompers," which
premiered at Pittsburgh City Theatre in 2004. His latest stage =
production,
"Red Light Winter," was the first play to completely sell-out =
Steppenwolf's
Garage Theater in Chicago, and opened February 2006 in New York. =20
=20
Winter Passing, Rapp's first film, is an affecting drama that depicts =
the
difficult reunion between a reclusive father and his estranged daughter,
Reese, who contacts him in hopes of publishing her late mother's final
works. The child of two well-known and hard-working authors, Reese
struggles to come to terms with issues of alienation from her childhood =
and
to overcome certain truths and the dissatisfaction of her present life.
Working with a cast that features Zooey Deschanel, Ed Harris, and Will
Ferrell, Ebert & Roeper credit Rapp for his quiet, introspective, =
delicate
touch, and declare Winter Passing "a good film - Two Thumbs Up!"
=20
The Oaks Theater is pleased to welcome audiences to an evening with =
director
Adam Rapp, who will be on hand first to introduce the film, then to =
answer
questions following a screening of Winter Passing at 7:30 on Monday, =
April
3. Acclaimed Pittsburgh actor Bingo O'Malley (who was featured in =
"Gompers"
at City Theatre), will also be present to offer words of introduction to =
his
collaborator and friend. =20
=20
Tickets ($7) include the screening and Q&A, and will be available only =
on
the day of show. Premium tickets ($12) include an informal =
wine-and-cheese
reception featuring dessert menu samplings, afterwards at Boulevard =
Bistro
(located next door). The Oaks Theater box office will open at 6pm, and
accepts cash only.=20
=20
The Oaks Theater, now in its fifth year under new ownership, is a =
gloriously
refurbished 430-seat single-screen movie house presenting the best in
current, classic, and non-traditional cinema entertainment, specializing =
in
community-based event programming that preserves its long-standing =
history
as a unique, public-oriented neighborhood theater venue.
