St. Richard Theatre Company celebrates its 26th season with one of
Broadway’s most beloved tales, "Once On This Island," directed and
choreographed by SRTC Artistic Director Nathan A. Lilly, March 30
through April 2.

Based on the novel "My Love, My Love or The Peasant Girl" by Rosa Guy,
"Once on this Island" is set on a small island in the French Caribbean,
and tells the story of a young peasant girl named Ti Moune who falls in
love with a wealthy young man named Daniel Beauxhomme. The story follows
spirit-driven Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love for
Daniel against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death. Having
rescued the boy from a terrible car crash, she pledges her own life to
keep his alive. Convinced that she and the boy are magically and
spiritually connected, she sets off on a journey to make her romantic
dream come true, and in her last moment of truth, proves that Love can
conquer all, even Death.

Loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson’s children’s story "The Little
Mermaid," "Island" is created by Broadway’s most ingenious award-winning
team, Lynn Ahrens (book and lyrics) and Stephen Flaherty (music), creators
of the Tony Award-winning musical "Ragtime," as well as "Seussical, the
Musical," and the animated film "Anastasia." "Island" boasts an upbeat,
Caribbean-flavored, contemporary score, and is presented in storyteller
style through Caribbean-infused movement and dance.
