Last night I was privileged to attend a special advance screening of a new
movie that is scheduled to open at theatres nationwide on May 5. The movie
is "Hoot" and was filmed on location in Florida. It is a cute story about a
group of middle school students trying to stop a big corporation from
building on land in Florida where endangered burrowing owls are nesting. It
is a very "family friendly" movie that doesn't insult the intelligence of
adults, yet has a good story that entertains children and teens.

The soundtrack for the movie is by Jimmy Buffett with others and includes
some new Jimmy Buffett songs. The CD will be out soon in stores. In the
movie, Jimmy Buffett plays a major role as a middle school science teacher.
So now Jimmy Buffettt can add movie star to his impressive list of

This screening was done via a live webcast on line across the nation in 40
cities across the nation from Irvine, CA. Locally it was at the Crocker Park
theatres in Westlake. It was a full house there. Following the screening of
the movie, there was a live telecast from Irvine, CA with the director of
the movie, producer, two of the leading actors (both very intelligent teen
agers), the author of the book that the movie was based on and Jimmy
Buffett. Live questions were asked by audience members and at the
conclusion, Jimmy Buffett gave an impromptu performance with some members of
his Coral Reefer Band. They did the main title theme from the movie "Good
Guys Win" (a new Buffett tune), "Volcano" and "Margaritaville".

These advance screenings were open by invitation to teachers, educators,
parents, children and members of Parrothead clubs. If you want to see a
cute, entertaining movie fit for the whole family, go see "Hoot" when it
opens May 5. BTW, Jimmy Buffett is beginning to look his age. He will turn
60 this year on Christmas day.
