The Broadview Heights Spotlights Community Theater is pleased to announce its Spring Mainstage production, "The Nerd." Show dates are Fridays and Saturdays, May 5-20, at 8:00 PM. A matinee performance is slated for Sunday, May 21 at 3:00 PM. All shows will be held at the Broadview Heights Cultural Arts Center, located on the Broadview Center campus at 9543 Broadview Road (1/2 mile South of Route 82). Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens.

"The Nerd" is a comedy written by Larry Shue. The play, set the 1980s, centers on the hilarious dilemma of Willum Cubbert, a young architect and Vietnam veteran who feels he owes a debt to Rick Steadman, a fellow veteran. Willum has never met Rick, but he has often told friends how Rick saved his life after he was seriously wounded in the line of duty. Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his Indiana apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday. His delight quickly fades, however, when it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless "nerd." Rick – a bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence, and less tact – overstays his welcome, and his continued presence among Willum and his friends leads to one uproarious incident after another. Starring Brian Kucherak as Willum and Gary Webster as Rick. Also starring: Allison Naso as Tansy McGinnis, Willum's career-oriented girlfriend; Mike Yonkura as Axel Hammond, Willum's wisecracking friend; Gary Marton as Warnock Waldgrave, Willum's hot-tempered boss; Melanie Hauer as Clelia Waldgrave, the boss's neurotic wife; and Zach Novak as Thor Waldgrave, the boss's insufferable child. Directed by Chris Otcasek.
