I'm Elizabeth Bernstein, in San Francisco.
I edit an online magazine called The Big Ugly Review
(_www.biguglyreview.com_ (http://www.biguglyreview.com) ),
which showcases emerging and established musicians, writers, photographers,
and filmmakers. Each issue contains original, downloadable songs, as well as
fiction, poetry, nonfiction, photo-essays and short films. Music
contributors in the current issue include The Stairwell Sisters, Chuck Prophet, and
Sean Hayes. Previous issues have had songs by Blame Sally, Patti Witten, Sonya
Hunter, essence, and lots of others. If you check out the current issue
and archives (via the "About" page), you'll see that the music comes from all
genres -- from bluegrass to folk to rock.
Our upcoming issue is "The Contest Issue." Each section is a contest with a
different judge and a cash prize. Winners are included in Issue 5 this
summer,
and are invited to play at our release party in SF. The judge for the
music
section is Rosalie Howarth. Rosalie is a longtime DJ at KFOG, and produces
and hosts the Acoustic Sunrise show there. She also produces and hosts the
internationally-syndicated Putamayo World Music Hour.
