TV version of radio special shows Orchestra leader in conversation with =
community: Thursday, June 29 at 7:30pm=20

On May 26, 90.3 WCPN and WVIZ/PBS ideastreamsm and The Cleveland =
Orchestra partnered to present Franz Welser-M=F6st, Music Director of =
the internationally renowned Cleveland Orchestra participating in a =
unique multiple media conversation with Northeast Ohio.=20

In a special presentation of the 90.3 WCPN AROUND NOON  radio program, =
Mr. Welser-M=F6st spoke at length with ideastream's Dee Perry,  fielded =
questions from a live studio audience, accepted comments and questions =
via e-mail, and connected through video conference distance learning =
technology to schools and students in remote locations around Ohio.=20

The May 26th program was video-taped and the premiere of the televised =
broadcast is scheduled to air Thursday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. as part of =
a special edition of APPLAUSE, the WVIZ/PBS award-winning weekly arts =
and culture program. (Repeat broadcasts of the program will air =
Saturday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 2 at 1:00 p.m.)

The June 29th APPLAUSE program features excerpts from the AROUND NOON =
special in which Mr. Welser-M=F6st and host Dee Perry previewed The =
Orchestra's performance of the opera-in-concert "Falstaff". During this =
conversation, Mr. Welser-M=F6st spoke candidly about his life and career =
in music, The Orchestra, and his role as a leader.=20

The event in May marked the first use of Idea Center's Studio One for a =
live-to-air radio broadcast and featured interactive components. =
Listeners called in and e-mailed questions to host Dee Perry and Mr. =
Welser-M=F6st. Members of the studio audience also offered comments and =
questions. =20

             The event marked the first use of video conference distance =
learning capabilities of the WVIZ/PBS Educational Services group in a =
simultaneous radio broadcast emanating from Studio One. Students from =
across the state of Ohio, whose schools accepted the internet-enabled =
program feed, had opportunities to participate in the conversation by =
viewing and e-mailing or phoning-in questions. Six students in the =
library at Vinton County High School, one of Ohio's most =
economically-challenged rural areas, participated in the program via =
this technology.=20
