Karamu Performing Arts Theatre will hold auditions for the anticipated World

In association with Karamu alumnae James Pickens Jr. (from the hot show
"Grey's Anatomy") and Otis Sallid (Bdway's "Smokey Joe's Cafe," "School
Daze," "Swing Kids," and "Malcolm X"), Karamu Performing Arts Theatre
presents the world premier musical Gospel! Gospel! Gospel!, an
inspirational, foot-stomping, hand-clapping musical revue of the history of
Black sacred music, showcasing some of Ohio's finest singers as it follows
gospel's journey from slavery to Thomas Dorsey to the present!

Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! is an inspirational, foot stomping, hand clapping
musical revue of gospel music. With a cast of seven outstanding singers,
Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! is an entertaining chronological look at gospel
music from then till now.

Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! tells the history of gospel through music. It is
filled with the best gospel music ever written and sung. >From the sweet
sound of old time jubilee singing to the hard hitting funky sounds of today.
Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! blesses, offers faith and restores the hope that so
many people are looking for today. It is an oasis of inspiration.

Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! moves through time and music, singing the songs that
made gospel famous. Songs such as Mahalia Jackson's Move On Up A Little
Higher; Edward Hawkins, Oh Happy Day; Alex Bradford's, Too Close To Heaven
and Whitney Houston's I Love The Lord. Powerful music, that has stood the
test of time. Songs of great faith and enormous courage.

Cast Breakdown

The cast of Gospel! Gospel! Gospel! consist of 7 strong gospel singers who
can both act and move well. The ability to act and dance is a plus. The
songs range from traditional old school gospel music to the contemporary
songs of today. Singers of all ages should audition. We want to tell the
whole story of this great music and history.  

One or more singers should be able to play tambourine and/or organ. 

Singer 1 (Female)         Alto. Able to sing the songs of Mahalia Jackson.
In addition songs such as Faith, The Battle Is Not Yours, I Ain't Gon' Let
Nobody Turn Me Around.   

Singer 2 (Female)         Alto - Able to do Clara Ward, Staples Singers 

Singer 3 (Female)         Needs to be able to stop the show. Aretha
Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Cece Winans 

Singer 4 (Female)         Ingenue, young, able to sing contemporary gospel
music. From Whitney Houston's I Love The Lord to Mary Mary. 

Singer 5 (Male)            Baritone-Bass Peace Be Still to Stand Everything
from Alex Bradford to Donnie McClurkin

Singer 6 (Male)            Able to sing older gospel music.  From the songs
of Thomas Dorsey (Precious Lord), Blind Boys Of Alabama, Pilgrim Travelers
