Hello Everyone,

This fall, I will be offering a workshop in Characterization for ages 16 and
up. This class is part of a much larger initiative of Fairmount
<http://www.fairmountcenter.org/> 's to develop a strong performing arts
educational program. For those students in this age group who wish to take
advantage of Mitchell Field's scene study class or Marc Moritz's workshops
in Improv and scene study, special two and three class discounts are
available. <http://www.fairmountcenter.org/mayfield/theatre.htm> Check
out the whole Fall schedule in Theatre - including other classes for ALL
ages. Note that, for adults who want to enjoy theatre as a fun, educational
experience, Lissy Gulick is offering play reading workshops and reader's
theatre classes as well.

Tom Fulton's Offering this Fall

Characterization
Nine Sessions
Tuesdays, beginning September 12 - November 19
(No Class on October 17)
7-10 p.m.
$225
Audit Fee $25 per Class

It is our conviction that if souls were visible to the eye we would clearly
see the strange fact that each individual of the human species corresponds
to some species of the animal kingdom; and we would easily recognize the
truth, scarcely perceived by thinkers, that from the oyster to the eagle,
from the pig to the tiger, all animals are in man, and that each of them is
in each man; sometimes even several of them at a time." Victor Hugo, Les
Miserables

"Characterization" is an in-depth exploration of the images and rhythms that
inform character. Concentrated Script-Analysis, sensory exploration of the
physical and vocal life of a character that help physically and rhythmically
define behavior. This class involves advanced scene work from both the
classical and modern theatre; from Shakespeare to Chekhov to Albee to
contemporary playwrights.

*	Text: Building a Character
*	Scenework: Two-person scenes and monologues from plays with
characters that stretch the actor to work outside type.
*	Exercises: Given Circumstances, Physicalization, Imagination,
Psychological Gesture

Philosophy: In my work as acting coach and instructor, I seek to provide
the highest quality professional actor training for adults (ages 16 and up).
The work is grounded in the most practical and powerful actor training
concepts of the 20th century developed by Constantin Stanislavski . My
workshops are a clearly defined practical education to those desiring to
make acting their profession or passionate vocation, providing an approach
to acting which requires the actor to work from a place of truth and
physical action. I am a working theater artist. I love to teach, and have
been teaching acting and directing since 1978. Minimum Class Size 8 -
Maximum 20

For questions and to register call 4400-338-3171.

Thanks! I hope to see you there!

THE FAIRMOUNT CENTER
Four words describe our aspirations as artists and educators at Fairmount.
CREATE. IMAGINE. INSPIRE. THRIVE. We are committed to putting our
collective artistic talents to the service of life-changing educational arts
programming for students of all ages.

"The theatre, the studio, the gallery - all are privileged places. The
activities within them should embrace the human spirit. No child should
ever leave a workshop feeling diminished or humiliated. Our mission is to
uplift and inspire...."I believe that knowledge and art are in themselves
ends, not simply means to get somewhere.. Because in both cases, the artist
or the student develops an expansiveness of self and a thriving confidence
that can affect and change the world..:

"We seek faculty and staff who have personal commitments to putting their
talents at the service of their students. A love for the student's growth
is the driving force behind our programming."

Tom Fulton, Executive Director
