WESTLAKE SONGWRITER WINS
UK SONGWRITING CONTEST

(Westlake Ohio) John Everson, songwriter for Eversong Music in Westlake Ohio, was chosen as a winner in the 2006 UK (United Kingdom) Songwriting Contest. Everson won first place in the Christian/Gospel/Faith category for his song "Somebodys Gotta Pray". The announcement of winners was made last week.

The annual UK Songwriting Contest began in 2002. Originally formed through a partnership between the BRIT Trust (of BRIT AWARDS fame) and The Music Aid Foundation (which is the United Nations music partner),  The contest is now held in association with the founding organizations, BBC (British Broadcasting Company) Radio and other establihed music entities such as The Guild of International Songwriters and Composers and the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. Predominately a United Kingdom event, the contest accepts and attracts entries from all over the world and has become a major part of the international songwriting calendar. 

The demo for  "Somebodys Gotta Pray" was recorded in Nashville, TN. with the lead vocal performed by christian country recording artist Tommy Brandt. This version of the song is featured on the UK Songwriting Contest compilation disc available to media via media at songwritingcontest.co.uk.  The song is also available for streaming and public purchase as a digital download at www.broadjam.com. (search under the song title, or the artist's name"John Called Mark").

John Everson previously wrote, recorded and released two full length blues/gospel albums with the Eversong label under the artist name John Called Mark.  Songs from those albums,"Songs From The Basement (1996)" and "The Money (2002)", both received critical acclaim and landed on BBC radio, UCB Europe and elsewhere.
