PLAYING THE GREAT CHARACTERS OF THE WORLD STAGE
Tom Fulton, Instructor=20

Tuesdays, beginning September 19
Mayfield Village Performing Arts Center
(Corner of Wilson Mills and Rt 91)
(No Class on October 17)
7-10 p.m. $225
Audit Fee $25 per Class

It is our conviction that if souls were visible to the eye we would
clearly see the strange fact that each individual of the human species
corresponds to some species of the animal kingdom; and we would easily
recognize the truth, scarcely perceived by thinkers, that from the
oyster to the eagle, from the pig to the tiger, all animals are in man,
and that each of them is in each man; sometimes even several of them at
a time."=20
Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

"PLAYING THE GREAT CHARACTERS OF THE WORLD STAGE" is an in-depth
exploration of the images and rhythms that inform character.
Concentrated Script-Analysis, sensory exploration of the physical and
vocal life of a character that help physically and rhythmically define
behavior. This class involves advanced scene work from both the
classical and modern theatre; from Shakespeare to Chekhov to Albee to
contemporary playwrights.=20

The Professional Acting Workshop Series, led by Fairmount's Executive
Director, Tom Fulton, provide the highest quality professional actor
training for adults (ages 18 and up) and are grounded in the most
practical and powerful actor training concepts of the 20th century: The
Stanislavski System . They provide a clearly defined practical
education to those desiring to make acting their profession or
passionate vocation, providing an approach to acting which requires the
actor to work from a place of truth and physical action. =20

MUSICAL GIGI MARKS 25TH CASSIDY THEATRE PRODUCTION FOR
THEATRICAL JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES LESTER CURRIE

Parma Heights - To musical theatre performers, becoming a triple threat - t=
hat is, one who has excellent acting, singing and dancing skills - is the u=
ltimate goal. Since its inception in 1975, the Cassidy Theatre, located in=
this Cleveland suburb has had many triple threats onstage, but since 2000,=
there has been only one quadruple threat behind the scenes - Director, Cho=
reographer, Costumer and Set Designer Lester Currie.=20

Mr. Currie=E2=80=99s latest Directing project is the classic musical Gigi. =
Gigi marks the Cassidy Theatre=E2=80=99s 2006/2007 season opener and the 25=
th Cassidy Theatre production in which Mr. Currie has been at least one par=
t of the production staff of a given show. Indeed, in many of these produ=
ctions, Mr. Currie has been the entire production staff - Director, Choreog=
rapher, Costumer and Set Designer - all by himself. Unusual because in mo=
st cases - especially with large scale musicals, which are Mr. Currie=E2=80=
=99s specialty - these artistic roles are each handled by separate people, =
making a larger production staff. Because Mr. Currie has the distinction o=
f being a skilled artist in all these areas, he often tackles them all duri=
ng a production. Gigi is one of those productions. =E2=80=9CWe are so lucky=
to have an artist like Lester here at the Cassidy=E2=80=9D says Managing D=
irector Christine Hnat. =E2=80=9CHe always manages to produce fantastic sho=
ws -practically by himself - that even larger production staffs would find=
 overwhelming.=E2=80=9D

Raised in Ashtabula, Ohio, Mr. Currie first developed his love of musical t=
heatre watching classic movie musicals on television. But he didn=E2=80=
=99t pursue a career in theatre until he attended the University of Tenness=
ee, studying theatre production. It was there that he began directing and =
choreographing. Costuming was also a part of the curriculum and he found t=
hat he had a natural skill for it and enjoyed the artistic challenges of cr=
eating costumes. He has costumed and performed in productions for the Clev=
eland Ballet and has costumed Cleveland Opera and Great Lakes Theatre Festi=
val productions as well as many other groups. He first appeared at Cassidy=
in a 2000 production of Pippin and since then the Cassidy is =E2=80=9Cthe =
place I call my second home=E2=80=9D Currie says.=20

Gigi is the classic Lerner and Lowe musical about the beauty, luxury and so=
phistication of turn-of-the-century Paris where love was a work of art and =
also a business arrangement. Its vivid scenes feature all-time hits =E2=80=
=9CGigi=E2=80=9D, =E2=80=9CI Remember it Well=E2=80=9D, =E2=80=9CThe Night =
They Invented Champagne=E2=80=9D and =E2=80=9CThank Heaven for Little Girls=
=E2=80=9D. Currie describes it as =E2=80=9CSweeping elegant and incredibly =
romantic=E2=80=9D. Gigi runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3p=
m from September 15th through October 1st. Call (440) 842-4600 for ticket =
reservations. Tickets are $20 for Adults, $15 for Students and Senior Citi=
zens. Season passes are available for additional savings. The Cassidy Thea=
tre is located at 6200 Pearl Rd. in Parma Heights.
