> Brecksville resident Spencer Phillips is learning age discrimination goes=
both ways. As keyboardist in epic-metal band Eternal Legacy, the 14-year-o=
ld Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School eighth-grader had trouble co=
nvincing an Agora security guard at a Dragonforce show in the spring that h=
e was in the opening band. Luckily, he finally was admitted so the show cou=
ld go on. Despite an age difference -- the other four band members are in t=
heir late teens and early 20s -- the Cleveland Institute of Music trained m=
usician is enjoying his time in the spotlight. "It's an interesting experie=
nce because they all try to beat up on me and call me the little guy, but t=
hey treat me with a lot of respect," Spencer said. "It's really cool having=
friends and bandmates that are older. I'm really serious about this band, =
and I hope it goes somewhere." Indeed, Eternal Legacy appears to be going p=
laces. Aside from its 10-track album "The Coming of the Tempest" due out in=
early 2007, the Parma-based quintet won a recent battle of the bands to ea=
rn an opening slot for Kamelot & Epica. This special show takes place at 7 =
p.m. Thursday at the Agora Ballroom, 5000 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. Tickets a=
re $17 advance, $20 day of show, available through Ticketmaster. Call 216-2=
41-5555 (Cleveland) or 330-945-9400 Akron). For more info. on Eternal Legac=
y, go to www.legacymetal.com.
