Cowslingers Reunite as Part of Bob Lanphier Benefit
Last Tuesday, October 3rd, Whiskey Daredevils/Crooked
Mile/Bitter Disappointment/solo artist Bob Lanphier
was seriously injured in an auto accident when a man
in a stolen vehicle drove through a red light on
Superior and 30th Street between 80-100 mph and
struck Bobs car in the drivers side. Bob was
hospitalized with a fractured skull, a large cut
on the head requiring 200 stitches, and other
smaller injuries. Bob faces a minimum of two months
of physical rehabilitation, and is not expected to
be able to work during this time period.
Just some of Bobs many friends in the community
have agreed to put on a benefit concert Thursday
October 26th at the Beachland Ballroom to help
cover Bobs day-to-day expenses while he recovers.
Bands that have already confirmed participation
include The Cowslingers, Uncle Scratchs Gospel
Revival, This Moment in Black History, the Lords
of the Highway, and Hayshaker Jones.
The Cowslingers were one of the regions most
popular live acts until their decision to stop
performing together in 2003. Noted for a high
energy live show, the band released nine critically
lauded full lengths, and over a dozen singles
/compilation tracks. During this time they also
received awards as Best Live Band, Best Country
Band, Best Punk Band and Best Rockabilly Band.
Three of the Cowslingers (Greg Miller/Ken Miller/
Leo P. Love) were joined by Bob Lanphier and Dave
Bowling to form the Whiskey Daredevils in 2004.
Uncle Scratchs Gospel Revival has won over fans
while kicking the devil in the balls across
stages, festivals, and parking lots throughout
the region. This Moment in Black History have
graciously decided to play the show only two days
after returning from a long European tour and
deliver an up-front sprawling assault that makes
you remember why you listened to punk rock in the
first place. Recipients of numerous Best Live Act
awards, Uncle Scratch is currently supporting their
new CD North of Hell. The Lords of the Highway
new DVD release is just another addition to their
high octane take on hillbilly punk music. Favorites
in the regional club circuit, the Lords are
considered one of the genres most exciting live
acts. Hayshaker Jones offers explosive American
music, and multiple members with Bob Lanphier
connections. Hayshaker founder Clint Hollys
regular Sunday open mike night at the Town Fryer
created numerous opportunities for members to jam
with Bob (and ultimately resulted in Bob becoming
a cook at the club!). One of the regions only true
Americana bands, Hayshaker Jones will feature
many members with Town Fryer connections.
Showtime is 9pm on Thursday October 26th. Donations
will be readily accepted and encouraged with 100%
of the take going to Bob Lanphiers day to day
living expenses.
