Wednesday, November 1st, 7pm

Thursday, November 2nd, 7pm

Goodbye Memories, followed by Opening Night Reception & Q&A w/ the
playwright!

GlenOak High School, Canton OH=20

The opening night performance will include a chance to meet Anita Yellin
Simons, a 1964 Glenoak HS graduate. Tickets are $5 and can be obtained =
by
contacting the GlenOak Drama Department at 330.491.3800 x3622. =20

The GlenOak High School Drama Department will be performing =93Goodbye
Memories=94, by Anita Yellin Simons, as their premier performance in the =
new
Black Box Theater. The Black Box Theater at the new GlenOak High School =
and
Community Campus is an intimate, versatile performance venue that allows =
for
an unlimited configuration for any type of production.

=93Goodbye Memories=94 was written by 1964 Glenwood graduate Anita =
Yellin Simons
and reveals a new side to Anne Frank. Everyone is familiar with the =
movie
and play that tell the story of what Anne wrote in her diary, however =
Simons
looks at Anne=92s life prior to her being forced into hiding. =
=93Goodbye
Memories=94 is a universal story of parents, children, friends, sexual
awakenings, and the special spirit of a talkative, attention-loving girl
named Anne Frank. Unlike the play and movie based on Anne=92s diary, =
=93Goodbye
Memories=94 begins on the morning of Anne=92s 13th birthday in June 1942 =
when
she receives her infamous diary. The play ends on the morning of July 6,
1942 when the Franks leave their home to go into hiding.=20

While writing this play, Simons=92 research included many in-depth =
interviews
with the friends of Anne Frank. Simons then depicts the friends in the =
play
as Anne=92s classmates, confidants, and soul sisters. Anne=92s friends =
are
still living today.

Simons is donating the play to the GlenOak High School Drama Department.
Carla Derr, GlenOak Drama teacher states, =93We are so grateful and =
excited to
perform =91Goodbye Memories=92 as the premier production in our new =
Black Box
Theater. Anita Yellin Simons is an accomplished playwright and the =
donation
of her work gives our students an incredible opportunity not only to =
perform
an original production, but also to experience a timeless, poignant =
story.=94

Goodbye Memories itells the story of the Frank family before they went =
into
hiding. The writer, 1964 Glenoak HS graduate, Anita Yellin Simons, is =
flying
in to Stark County at her own expense to work with the Glenoak H.S. =
Drama IV
class and to help with rewrites. This year=92s Drama IV students have =
taken on
the task of transforming the Black Box into a performance space. They =
have
built the stage and technical booth, designed and built the set and will =
be
staffing the entire production. For more information, contact Carla =
Derr at
cderr at neo.rr.com.=20

GlenOak High School to perform =93Goodbye Memories=94 as premier =
performance in
new Black Box Theater.

Goodbye Memories=94 is presented in two acts and runs approximately 90
minutes, plus an intermission. The cast includes two women, four =
teenage
girls, one man and one teenage boy. The setting is the Frank=92s living =
room,
Anne=92s bedroom, the rooftop and one exterior scene. Since all of =
Anne=92s
friends who are portrayed in this play are still alive, it is hoped that =
one
or more of them would be invited to attend a production and participate =
in a
discussion afterwards.

The iron-man of the reggae scene in Cleveland, Ohio is without question,
Carlos Jones. This music is from the heart and soul, and remains close =
to
the earth even as it reaches for the heavens. A variety of hand drums =
and
percussion are used to lay the foundation, and very often acoustic =
guitar
can be heard blending in with the electric guitars and keys. At times =
you
can find touches of gospel influences, as well as folk music and R&B. =
PLUS
is one of the few bands that will strip everything away to reveal the =
basic
foundation of the rhythm, which is played on the Niyabinghi drums, and =
offer
a simple meditative chant to uplift the soul. Giving thanks and praises =
to
The Most High! Real musicians playing real instruments, and singing =
songs

Book Signing & Reception: author/veterinarian/Massillon native, Earl
Lindsay, DMV=20

Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way East, downtown Massillon
OhRegionalities, the Massillon Museum shop, will host a first look and =
book
signing for When the Old Dog Barks, a collection of stories written by =
Earl
E. Lindsay, D.V.M. Dr. Lindsay served farms and families in the =
Massillon
area from 1955 to 1995. The reception for the author will be held in the
main lobby of the Massillon Museum from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Dr. Lindsay =
will
be on hand to sign books, reminisce with former clients, and tell some =
of
his homegrown stories...without giving away the treasures in his book.
Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to =
everyone.
Earl Edwards Lindsay spent his boyhood years on small farms in the =
Massillon
area, graduating from Washington High School in 1944. After a two-year
military stint, he studied veterinary medicine at The Ohio State =
University
College of Agriculture. In 1954, just one day after graduation, he =
married
Nancy Lou Schick. They returned to the Massillon area, where he opened =
his
practice, Aquadale Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Lindsay, Nancy, and their
dearly-loved dog Molly now reside in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The pages of Dr. Lindsay=B9s book are filled with short, heartfelt tales =
of
the animals he treated and how he worked with their guardians. His days
were filled with farm visits; his evenings full of families bringing =
their
pets to his Aquadale office. He talks to the reader about the Stark =
County
Fair, the county=B9s last cattle drive, and runaway bulls. He writes =
about
the inevitable animal bites and kicks that he suffered, the intuition =
and
intelligence of animals that amazed him, and the incredible sagas of =
injured
animals that instinctively found their own way to his door. The entire =
book
is peppered with humor, philosophy, and happy memories. Dr. Lindsay was
involved from the beginning with the Massillon Tiger Booster Club=B9s =
live
tiger mascots. He shares stories about the cubs, their handlers, and =
their
adventures. When the Old Dog Barks is a 225-page soft-cover book, 5.5 =
inches
by 8.5 inches. There=B9s a map tucked in the pages to help readers =
track Dr.
Lindsay as he tours the region=B9s farmlands in his narrative. The =
book,
edited and printed at Bates Printing in Massillon, sells for $22.95.
Massillon Museum members are eligible for a 10% discount. For additional
information about When the Old Dog Barks or the book signing event, =
contact
Dan Bates at 330-833-5830. For more information about the Massillon =
Museum,

Stark ACT 2

Visit www.starkact.com <http://www.starkact.com/> to become a sponsor,
volunteer, participating venue, or performer!

Stark Arts Coming Together (Stark ACT), a grassroots committee of =
volunteers
and arts advocates, is excited to announce that the second annual Stark
County Arts Week celebration, Stark ACT 2, will be held April 13 - 22, =
2007.
The event was created in 2006 to raise awareness of the arts, increase
participation in the arts and build connections between the arts and the
community. =20

=93It was a challenge bringing together a first-ever county-wide event =
like
this, but ACT 1 was a real success," said Barbara Rosenberg, president =
of
Stark Arts Coming Together. "So many individuals and organizations
participated this year and shared in a true spectrum of artistic and
creative activities. Based on our first-year success, we're confident =
that
next year=92s event will be even bigger and better, as other, new
organizations take the opportunity to participate and add their =
arts-related
activity to the ten-day county-wide arts celebration."

Stark County residents of all ages are encouraged to participate as
performers, audience members and/or volunteers. Stark ACT1, held in =
April
2006, featured over 100 arts events in Stark County in a nine-day =
period.
All art forms were represented, including many genres of music concerts,
dance and theatre performances, spoken word gatherings, workshops, and
visual arts exhibits and demonstrations. Mayors Janet Weir Creighton of
Canton, Toni Middleton of Alliance and Francis Cicchinelli of Massillon =
were
the Honorary Chairpersons.

Schools of all levels, youth groups, social service or youth =
organizations,
and houses of worship, are encouraged to participate in Stark ACT 2.
Restaurants, nursing homes, hospitals, and businesses are encouraged to =
host
musicians, performers, or storefront art displays. Creative ideas for
incorporating the arts into the community are welcomed.

Stark Arts Coming Together (Stark ACT), a grassroots committee of =
volunteers
and arts advocates, is excited to announce that the second annual Stark
County Arts Week celebration, Stark ACT 2, will be held April 13 - 22, =
2007.
The event was created in 2006 to raise awareness of the arts, increase
participation in the arts and build connections between the arts and the
community. =20

SARTA has generously offered to, again this year, post the poetry of =
local
poets in its buses during Stark ACT 2. Those of you who had your works =
on
buses last year know that it was up for months, not days, so maybe it =
will
be this year, too?! Right now, we know that the work of local writers =
will
be professionally mounted and placed on all SARTA buses for at least ten
days.

Submissions should be from 2-6 lines. Riders want to be able to read =
them
from across the aisle. Some will also be flashed electronically! A =
small
committee from stark act 2 will screen all submissions. We are eager to =
be
represented by as many poets as possible. You are welcome to submit as =
many
poems as you like, although we probably will not use more than two poems
from any one poet. Anyone who has any connection with Stark County is
welcome to submit. You might live in Stark, work in Stark, belong to a
writing group in Stark...you imagine it!

Please submit to: Dr. Audrey Lavin, 5240 Plain Center Rd. NE, Canton =
44714=20

collection of
stories written by Earl E. Lindsay, D.V.M. Dr. Lindsay served =
farms and
families in the Massillon area from 1955 to 1995. The reception for the =
author
will be held in the main lobby of the Massillon Museum from 3:00 to 5:00 =

Dr. Lindsay will be on hand to sign books, reminisce with former =
clients,
and tell some of his homegrown stories...without giving away the =
treasures in
his book. Light refreshments will be served. The event is =
free and
open to everyone.
Earl Edwards Lindsay spent his boyhood years on small farms in the =
Massillon
area, graduating from Washington High School in 1944. After a =
two-year
military stint, he studied veterinary medicine at The Ohio State =
University
College of Agriculture. In 1954, just one day after graduation, he
married Nancy Lou Schick. They returned to the Massillon area, =
where he
opened his practice, Aquadale Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Lindsay, =
Nancy, and
their dearly-loved dog Molly now reside in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The pages of Dr. Lindsay=B9s book are filled with short, heartfelt tales =
of the
animals he treated and how he worked with their guardians. His =
days were
filled with farm visits; his evenings full of families bringing their =
pets to
his Aquadale office. He talks to the reader about the Stark County =
Fair,
the county=B9s last cattle drive, and runaway bulls. He writes =
about the
inevitable animal bites and kicks that he suffered, the intuition and
intelligence of animals that amazed him, and the incredible sagas of =
injured
animals that instinctively found their own way to his door. The =
entire
book is peppered with humor, philosophy, and happy memories. Dr. Lindsay =
was
involved from the beginning with the Massillon Tiger Booster Club=B9s =
live tiger
mascots. He shares stories about the cubs, their handlers, and their
adventures. When the Old Dog Barks is a 225-page soft-cover book, 5.5 =
inches by
8.5 inches.
For =
