Oklahoma has the Dream/Rape Ballet.

Grease teaches that in order to be popular, you have to bend to peer
pressure.=20

=20

Urinetown uses the word =93pee=94 and you=92re getting bent out of shape =
when its
central themes are about overthrowing an oppressive government (and it =
does
so with witty songs, while spoofing other musicals)?

=20

If you treat the 7th and 8th graders as adults, they=92ll respond as =
adults.
If you teach them that the word =93pee=94 is distasteful, all you=92ve =
taught them
is to overlook the broader theme and to respond to life from the =
perspective
of a 7th grader.

Have we really come to a point where teenagers singing about natural =
bodily
functions is too much to handle? As one of the "kids" planning on
auditioning for this production, I take objection to your implying that =
we
can't handle talking about something that we all do many times a day.

Over the last couple of years this same theatre group has produced such
shows as Sweeney Todd, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Chicago. All of these
shows contain "objectionable" material, but I think that the directors =
of
the program have done us students a great service by giving us the =
chance to
perform these "adult" works. I feel that I have grown more as an actor
working on these shows than if we had instead done Annie or Grease =
(which,
by the way, I feel has a far more damaging message than any of the shows
I've mentioned above).

I for one am excited for the chance to be in this hilarious and very =
topical
(there is a message under all of that pee) show.
