HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WVIZ/PBS PROGRAM APPLAUSE FOR MONTH OF DECEMBER=20

Emmy Award-winning ideastreamsm production focuses on Northeast Ohio
arts and cultural activity=20

=20

APPLAUSE, the Emmy Award-winning production of WVIZ/PBS ideastreamsm
hosted by Dee Perry spotlights Northeast Ohio's rich arts and cultural
scene. This month, Applause features The University of Akron's School=
 of
Dance, Theatre & Arts Administration; an interview with photographer
Robert Turner; a tribute to Robert Lockwood Jr; a rare interview with
famed architect Wolfe Prix; and a visit to the American Marble and Toy
Museum in Akron.=20

Now in its ninth season, Applause airs on WVIZ/PBS ideastream Thursdays
at 7:30 pm.=20

Featured episodes of Applause during December include:

Thursday, December 7, 7:30 pm. (repeats Sunday, December 10 at 1pm)

On this month's first episode of Applause, director Neil Sapienza and
associate professor Andrew Carroll, both of the School of Dance, Theatre
& Arts Administration at The University of Akron, talk about the
school's performance arts program and its brand new facility. Dee also
interviews William Robinson, curator of Modern European Art at the
Cleveland Museum of Art discussing the current "Barcelona & Modernity"
exhibit. Local photographer Herb Ascherman Jr. also joins Dee to talk
about two exhibitions of his work: one at the Maltz Museum of Jewish
Heritage and the other at Western Reserve Historical Society.

=20

Thursday, December 14, 7:30 pm. (repeats Sunday, December 17 at 1pm)

Applause caught up with photographer Robert Turner while he was in town
recently for a lecture at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Turner talked about the art of photography and the exhibition of his
work, Rare Places in a Rare Light, currently on display at CMNH. The
Karamu House production of "Black Nativity" has become an annual holiday
tradition. Terrance Spivey, artistic director for Karamu House and
Michael Medcalf, executive/artistic director of Cleveland Contemporary
Dance Theatre, join Dee in studio for a special look at this musical
production. Concluding the program, David C. Barnett pays tribute to the
life and music of local jazz great Robert Lockwood Jr.

=20

Thursday, December 21, 7:30 pm. (repeats Saturday, December 23 at 6:30pm
and Sunday, December 24 at 2:30am and 1pm)=20

The Applause cameras recently caught up with Wolfe Prix, the architect
for the Akron Art Museum renovations, for an interview about his life
and work, and an update on the AAM renovations. In another segment Dee
Perry interviews photographer and Cleveland Arts Prize recipient Andrew
Borowiec. The program also includes a conversation with the Greater
Cleveland Film Commission president Chris Carmody discussing the 2007
Cleveland International Film Festival, and Film Commission efforts to
bring feature film production to Cleveland, including the use of the
Cleveland Convention Center and proposed legislation for tax incentives
to film companies who shoot in Ohio.

=20

Thursday, December 28, 7:30 pm. (repeats Saturday, December 30 at 6:30pm
and Sunday, December 31 at 1pm)

While Akron is widely known as the "Rubber City," it may not be common
knowledge that is also the place where the first mass produced toy - the
marble - was manufactured. Applause takes viewers inside the American
Marble and Toy Museum to learn about the history of the marble industry
and Akron's role in it. The program takes another step back in time -
about 67 million years - to visit "A T. rex Named Sue," an exhibition=
 at
the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The program concludes with a
look back at the past year and highlights some of the bigger stories
that have affected the Northeast Ohio arts and culture scene. =20
