Porthouse Theatre Holds Auditions for 
its 2007 "39: Young Enough to be Fun; Old Enough to be Classic" Season

 

Cuyahoga Falls, OH - Porthouse Theatre, Akron-Cleveland area's premiere,
professional summer theatre, announces auditions in Cleveland and Kent for
its 2007 Season.   The season includes down-home entertainment and
rock-a-billy fun in Pump Boys and Dinettes, June 14 - 30, directed by
associate artistic director Eric van Baars.  Next, we will proudly feature
J.M. Barrie's timeless classic Peter Pan, July 5 - 21, directed by New York
City director Matthew Earnest.  Finally, we proudly present the musical
sensation Sweet Charity, July 26 - August 12, directed by Porthouse Theatre
Artistic Director, Terri Kent and choreographed by John R. Crawford.  All
positions are paid and EMC points are available.  

 

Auditions will be held in Kent and in Cleveland.  In Cleveland, auditions
for all three productions will be held at the Cleveland Play House in
Rehearsal Hall C on Tuesday, April 3 from 5 pm - 10 pm and Thursday, April 5
from 5 pm - 10 pm. The Cleveland Play House is located on Euclid Avenue and
East 85th Street.  

 

In Kent, auditions for all three productions will be at Kent State
University on Wednesday, April 4 from 6 PM to 11 PM and Friday, April 6
from 6 PM to 11 PM .  Auditions will be held on the Main Kent State
University Campus in the Music & Speech Center located on the corner of
Horning & Main.   

 

Call backs are Saturday, April 7th and Monday, April 9th.  Call backs are
held in Kent in the Music & Speech Center at Kent State University. You must
be able to attend callbacks in order to be considered for a role. 

 

Those auditioning for Pump Boys and Dinettes and/or Sweet Charity should
prepare two selections of 16 bars, one ballad and one up-tempo song.  Please
bring sheet music in the appropriate key for the accompanist provided.
Those auditioning for Peter Pan should prepare one 2 minute classical
monologue; Shakespeare or verse is acceptable.  Anyone auditioning for all
three productions should prepare two selections of 16 bars and one monologue
not to exceed four minutes combined.  A cappella singing will not be
permitted. 

 

The roles of Captain Hook/Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling in Peter Pan have
already been cast. The roles of Charity Hope Valentine and Oscar have
already been cast in Sweet Charity.  All roles are available for Pump Boys
and Dinettes.

Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled after January 8, 2007

Porthouse Theatre was founded in 1971 and is the premier summer theater in
the area.  Set on the beautiful grounds of the Blossom Music Center,
Porthouse offers audiences the finest in professional summer theater.   The
comfortable 500-seat, outdoor, covered pavilion theater is located next to
the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Cuyahoga Falls.  

Porthouse Theatre is a cultural service of Kent State University.  Porthouse
Theatre is a member of the Akron Area Arts Alliance.  Porthouse Theatre's
programs and activities are made possible in part by funding from the Ohio
Arts Council.
