Christmas Vespers tradition continues at Lake Erie College=20

=20

(Painesville, Ohio) - Christmas Vespers - one of the oldest living
traditions at Lake Erie College - will be presented on Sun., Dec. 10, at
4:30 p.m. in Morley Music Hall.

=20

Weekly Sunday Vespers programs date back to the early 1900s at Lake Erie
College, with the last Sunday event before the winter break being
designated "Christmas Vespers." The only surviving vespers program, it
is presented annually with all the pageantry and almost all of the same
elements it had nearly century ago.

=20

The program showcases the College's Music Department and will feature
the Lake Erie College Community Chorus, under the direction of Paul
Gothard, professor of music, and the Flute Choir, directed by Judith
Elias. Soloists include flautist, Judith Elias; organist, Mark Bell,
Ph.D., assistant professor of German and French, who will perform works
on the newly-restored Carol Morris E. M. Skinner Organ; mezzo-soprano,
Jean Priddy; and student pianists, Marie Giosi and Deborah Hoffman.

=20

The program includes works by J. S. Bach, Norman Dello Joio, Ned Rorem,
John Rutter, John Jacob Niles, David Peninger, Jan Sweelinck, Flor
Peeters, Paul Manz and numerous old European folk carols. Compositions
from the Baroque to the Modern period assure that the concert will
appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.=20

=20

The Christmas Vespers program is free and open to the public. Doors will
open at 4 p.m. Reservations are not needed. For more information, call
Paul Gothard at (440) 375-7030.=20
