TrueNorth is very pleased to announce some exciting changes to the Tuesday
night choir program. The TrueNorth Community Chorus has been performing
throughout the region since 2003 with tremendous success and support from
surrounding communities. In an effort to further refine the skills of the
performers, the decision has been made to transition the chorus to two
separate groups; the TrueNorth Mens Chorus and TrueNorth Womens Chorus.
It was time to make a change in order to take the chorus to the next
level, explains Rick Fortney, TrueNorths Executive Director and Director
of the Community Chorus since its inception. Breaking the chorus into two
groups will allow us to work more intensely with performers and help them
develop their talents in a way which isnt possible as one chorus. With
that being said, TrueNorth is welcoming a new team member to their faculty.
Betty-Ann Lynerd made her directoral debut on Tuesday, January 9th by
leading the first practice of the 07 Winter Term Womens Chorus.
Betty-Ann has a long and impressive musical career spanning multiple states
and three decades of dedication to music. Betty-Ann has served as
Instructor/Conductor at The Kings College from 1976-1988, Nyack College
from 1982-1992 and George Mason University from 2001-2003. She also served
as Director of Music at Calvary Baptist Church in New York City from
1987-1993, and Grace Presbyterian Church in Lanham, MD from 1994-2005.
Betty-Ann is a choral conductor, but also an accomplish accompanist and
flutist. She is very involved with the American Choral Directors
Association, Maryland/Washington, DC Chapter having served as Vice President
from 2003-2005 and President from 2001-2003.
Rick Fortney will be directing the Mens Chorus, continuing with the fine
repertoire and technique begun with the Avon Lake Mens Chorus which he
co-founded and directed before disbanding a few years ago.
Both the Mens and Womens Chorus will meet on Tuesday evenings from
7:30-9:30. The two groups will continue to begin and end each practice
together and work on SATB music as well. New members are always welcome and
all styles of music will be experienced. No prior experience is necessary to
take part in this fun and exciting opportunity to develop and hone your
vocal talents.
