Call for Additional Auditions
The WAKE UP And LIVE’s Actors’ Studio is still auditioning for two romantic comedies, by local playwright, Gary R. Webster, for its “PlayActs” Performances. The one-acts, Strictly Platonic? and Prime Beef will be performed, Fri., Sat. & Sun. 4/27-29, at Gallery 324, for 3 benefit performances. Rehearsals will begin in early March.
Auditions are Sat. 3/3, 1:00 P.. Come prepared with a one-minute serio-comic contemporary monologue and/or, to read from the script. Call to schedule an appointment, and for Shaker Heights location. 1. Strictly Platonic? Characters
Paul (mid-40’s). A dreamer. He's dependent on Emily for companionship and moral support. He's not dumb but dense enough that he doesn't realize how he feels about her until it's almost too late.
Emily (mid-20's). Cute and level-headed, smart but adventurous enough to move 1,000 miles away from home with a man she really doesn't know very well. She's in touch enough with her feelings to know that she's falling in love with Paul but is willing to leave him when it appears their relationship is hurting his career. She's soft-hearted enough to give her ex-fiance` a second chance, although it is against her better judgment
Prudence P. Primrose (40’s). She takes her job with a children's cable TV network seriously. She passes herself off as a paragon of virtue but is a love starved young woman deep down inside and is putty in Denny's hands when he tries to seduce her.
Denny (late 20’s). The best word to describe Denny is amoral. He thinks he's God's gift to women. He really can't understand why Emily isn't willing to embrace him after he left her standing at the altar. He'll try to seduce any woman he's attracted to.
2. Prime Beef Characters
Diane (mid-20’s). Attractive and confident but much more anxious to get married than the typical woman of the new millennium. She's the jealous type. She's smart and knows how to use her femininity to get what she wants. She has a soft spot for the little animals she cares for at the shelter
Jeff (mid to late 20's). Good looking. He's perfectly satisfied with his relationship with Diane and is in no rush to get married. He's accustomed to her efforts to manipulate him and tolerates them with good humor. He's overly protective of his best friend Eddie.
Eddie (late 20’s). An average looking guy. Wishes he could find a woman like Diane. He's flattered when she asks him to participate in the bachelor auction. He's sincerely sorry he doesn't raise any money for the animal shelter but is also hurt when no one bids on him.
Elaine (early 30's). Attractive and confident. A bit of a vamp. She's not afraid to go after what she wants.
