Cleveland State University Dramatic Arts Program is pleased to announce auditions and interviews for its first professional Summer Repertory Theatre!

We will be having auditions and interviews for various acting and technical positions for our first Summer Repertory Theatre season. There are positions available for Equity, non-Equity, and support positions, as well as opportunities for secondary and college students who would like to be involved in the summer for college credit. Several Equity and other professional artists will be coming in for the season and will offer master classes and workshops for the “apprentice” company. There will also be opportunities for company members to create and perform their own pieces on Sunday evening in our studio space.

Rehearsal will begin May 21, the season will open June 14 and close July 15.

We will be presenting two productions in rotating repertory:

The Robber Bridegroom a bluegrass musical by Alfred Uhry, directed by Michael Mauldin

Jamie Lockhart (cast): a gentleman robber
              Clemment Musgrove: a wealthy planter
              Salome: his second wife
              Rosamund: his daughter
              Little Harp: a robber
Big Harp: the head of a robber
              Goat: a simpleton
              Goat’s Mother
              Goat’s Sister
A Raven (will also serve as Dance Captain)
              Residents of Rodney, Mississippi

This is a high-energy, improvisatory production which requires an amount of stamina and physical flexibility. The ensemble is constantly on stage and an integral part of the action.

Booth a drama by Austin Pendleton directed by Carl Whidden

Junius Booth (cast) great Shakespearean actor; loving and violent; intelligent and alcoholic; 50s

Edwin Booth (cast) Junius’ eldest son; delicate, then very strong; late teens, but probably demands an actor in his twenties

Mary Ann mother of Junius’ children; originally English; warm, passionate, occasionally skeptical; 40’s

Mrs. Hill actress; acerbic, resigned, angry, gentle; 40s – 50s

Page actor; rapturously accepting of his failure; 40s – 50s

Baxter rough frontiersman with a song and dance man’s elegance; 30’s – 50’s

Adelaide Junius’ wife, long since betrayed in England. Complicated, lethally witty, and hurt; a match for Junius.

Auditionees are asked to prepare a 1 – 2 minute monologue and 16 bars of a country or bluegrass song. A CD player and accompanist will be available.

  Auditions are Friday, April 20th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 21 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Callbacks TBA.
