Hudson Players Offer Farce in Grand Tradition of Comedy

Hudson, Ohio - April 24 2007

The Hudson Players will perform the hysterical farce Run for Your Wife =
Friday and Saturdays May 4th - May 19th. Performances are at 8pm at the =
Barlow Community Theater. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by =
advance reservations by calling 330-655-8522.

Farce is generally defined as a type of broad comedy that uses absurd =
and highly improbable events in the plot. In essence it's life turned =
upside down. Situations are humorous because of their ludicrous and =
often ridiculous nature. (Such as in Run For Your Wife where our main =
character has two wives who are unaware of each other and he works =
furiously and comically to keep his secret a secret). Examples of farce =
can be found in ancient Greek comedies, the plays of Shakespeare the =
movies of Monty Python and the operettas of Gilbert and Sullivan. Farce =
in film also includes the works of Charlie Chaplin, Mel Brooks and Woody =
Allen.=20

Farce makes use of both verbal and physical humor, using deliberate =
character exaggeration by the actor and playwright to enhance the humor. =
It is not subtle but is very funny due to the fast pace and broad humor. =
Ray Cooney is known for his ability to write great farces and Run for =
Your Wife is no exception for this great author. This superb example of =
the British farce had them rolling in the aisles in London and New York =
and even starred Ray Cooney in its original production.

=20

This comedy tells the story a taxi driver who gets away with having two =
wives in different areas of London because of his irregular working =
schedule.

=20

Due to his performing a good Samaritan act he is made a minor celebrity.

=20

Then complication is piled on complication as the cabby tries to keep =
his double life from exploding and catches his best friend helplessly in =
the middle of it all.=20

=20

As his happy double life careens out of control audiences will be sure =
to enjoy the comedic mayhem, double entendre and mistaken identity that =
comes as a result.

=20

The cast, directed by Claudia Lillibridge, includes:

a.. John Smith - Justin Brenis
  b.. Mary Smith - Theresa Benyo-Marzullo
c.. Barbara Smith - Darlene Rocco
d.. Stanley Gardner - Kirk Worcester
  e.. Detective-Sergeant Troughton - Brian Diehl
f.. Detective Sergeant Porterhouse - Michael Rogan
g.. Bobby Franklyn - Adam Young
  h.. Reporter - Leonard Peacefull
=20

Performance dates are Friday and Saturday evenings
May 4th - May 19th at 8pm
All performances will be at the Barlow Community Center=20
=20

=20
