There is one weekend left (four shows) to see Fourth Wall Productions Stained Glass Ugly written by Qui Nguyen. The play has some mature language, but is suitable for anyone sixteen years old and up. Come see what all the hype is about when it comes to Fourth Wall Productions, and why we attract so many non-theatre goers to our audience.
Stained Glass Ugly is a two person play (with the marvelous talents of Dash Combs and Carli Taylor Miluk) about the inner turmoil one faces with outside disfigurement. During their engagement, Adam Mann is horribly disfigured in a freak accident. Now, seven days before their wedding, he and his fiance, Madison Misco, shows you their thoughts, their perceptions of the world, and their trepidations with following their destined course of being with someone whose either perceived as ugly on the outside, or perceived as ugly on the inside.
Originally from Arkansas, Qui Nguyen is a New York based playwright and Artistic Director of the Caffe Cino Award winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company (www.vampirecowboys.com). As a playwright, Qui’s scripts include the Vampire Cowboys productions of Stained Glass Ugly; Living Dead in Denmark; A Beginner's Guide to Deicide; Vampire Cowboy Trilogy; and the recent critically acclaimed production of Men of Steel which was raved as a “culturally savvy comedy” by THE NEW YORK TIMES, “Hilarious” by OFFOFFONLINE, and garnered a BACKSTAGE critic’s pick. Other recent productions include Bike Wreck by Youngblood/Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Off-Broadway production of Trial By Water by Ma-Yi Theater which was lauded by TIMEOUT NEW YORK as "Tour-de-force theater" and called "Brilliant" by SHOW BUSINESS WEEKLY.
Qui’s plays have had workshops and staged readings at Mark Taper Forum, The Goodman, Pan Asian Rep, New Dramatists, The New Group, DueEast, and The Immigrant's Theatre Project. Additionally, his plays have been published in the anthologies PLAYS AND PLAYWRIGHTS 2005 by The New York Theatre Experience and SAVAGE STAGE by Ma-Yi Theater.
His play Stained Glass Ugly was first produced by Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company in simultaneous productions happening in New York City at the Midtown International Theatre Festival and in Los Angeles at Noho Studios during the summer of 2003. The productions immediately brought critical attention to the company including praise from BACKSTAGE who exclaimed “This is a new young company to keep an eye on!” LA WEEKLY followed by calling the writing “consistently clever, graceful, and provocative.”
Qui has been honored with The Gilman/New Dramatists Playwriting Fellowship, recognition as one of NYTheatre.com's 2004 People of the Year, and cited as a "Playwright to Watch" by TIMEOUT NEW YORK. Last season, his play Living Dead in Denmark was nominated for Best Production by the 2006 New York Innovative Theatre Awards.
Qui holds a MFA in Playwriting from Ohio University where he has worked previously with many of the artists from Fourth Wall Productions. He is a co-director of the Ma-Yi Writers' Lab, a proud member of Ensemble Studio Theatre's Youngblood, and an advanced actor/combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors.
