What: Theatre and Film Summer Workshops held by the Slightly Askew Theatre
Company, Cleveland 2007 (www.slightlyaskew.org)

Who: Workshops open to high school students (other students will be
considered on an individual basis)

When: 10 am-6 pm each day: one session July 13-17, one session August 16-20

video camera and digital camera ready to go

How Much: Summer Weeklong Workshops @ $120 each; if registering for both
July and August only $200 total

*360 Degree Documentary*

A five-day long workshop where students will be given a camera and asked to
work together to create documentary films around a specific topic of their
choice in *Birdtown*. The course will include introduction and examples of
different types of documentary: media/research, docu-drama, personal, and
propaganda among others as well as exercises into how to interview and
approach a subject.  Students will learn about different processes and
approaches to collecting material, interviewing subjects, storyline, and
conducting research. As students take turns filming, acting and interviewin=
g
residents of *Birdtown*, they will be criss-crossing the line between
fiction and documentary. At the end of the workshop both the raw and edited
footage will be posted on the group's website for students to review so the=
y
can suggest their own narrative threads and continue developing the
characters they have created throughout the workshop.


FUTURE WORKSHOP:

August 16-20, 2007

*Conspirator of the Camera: Making Movies*

A week-long workshop that offers students both hands-on training and film
theory to inspire and inform their work. The curriculum will be divided int=
o
three parts: Film Production =96 Style and Technique; Film Theory & Critici=
sm;
and Cinematic Projects. The first two parts will be devoted to formal
training and the third to creative work put together by the students on-sit=
e
and presented at the end of the week.
