This Tony-award winning classic set in ancient Rome originally opened on
Broadway in 1962, was made into an Oscar-winning film in 1967, and was
revived with great success in 1972 and again in 1996. The farcical story
is based on the writings of the Roman playwright Plautus (251-183 BC),
and follows the slave Pseudolous, who attempts to win his freedom by
helping his young master, Hero, win the girl of his dreams. The play is
filled with mistaken identities, clever social commentary, and lots of
hummable melodies, including several of Sondheim's catchiest songs, such
as "Comedy Tonight", "Everybody Ought To Have A Maid", and "Lovely".

CVLT's production brings together members of the theatre's 'old guard'
with some spectacular new talents. At the helm is Don Edelman (director
of last year's sell-out /I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change/ among
others), with musical director David Keith Stiver (/Full Monty/) and
renowned choreographer Ida Porris. Heading up the cast as the lovably
bawdy 'Pseudolous' is Cleveland theatre fixture Pat Mazzarino, with the
incredible rising talents of Ben Fankhauser as 'Hero' and Ryann
Angelotti as his love, 'Philia'. Also joining in the fun are long time
CVLT favorites Sy Levine, Steve Kay, Paula Pike and Marilyn Fadeley,
with a few more recent CVLT regulars like Eric Oswald and Greta Rothman.
