Gallery Ü Haul: 1st Annual “MIX: 24 Hours of Art”
6:00 p.m August 10 – 6:00 p.m. August 11, 2007
Curated by Patsy Kline and Deirdre Lauer

Tremont, Ohio has experienced a rapid growth in its arts
community over the last ten years. In response to that
surge of interest in the arts an innovative and unique
event was spawned. “MIX: 24 Hours of Art” begins this year
as a round-the-clock event where local students, artists,
and guests can create new works across the disciplines of
theater, dance, music, visual art, and creative writing.
Each participant is asked to deal with the topic of
“moving on”. The event will run from 6:00 p.m. Friday,
August 10 through 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11 at 2338
Scranton Road, located on the north/west corner of Willey
(Kenilworth becomes Willey once it crosses Scranton) and
Scranton Road in Tremont. “MIX: 24 Hours of Art” is open
to the public and is free, though donations will be
accepted.

MIX was created to foster development of new
work and encourages interdisciplinary collaborations
between artists, from novice to professional. Special
performances and demonstrations are programmed throughout
the 24-hours such as a “Recycled Art” competition where
participants are given materials and have three hours to
complete a project on an environmental theme and “Visual
Journaling” where participants can create artwork with
their words. The event also allows for free time where
individuals and teams can choreograph, write, sculpt,
film, and compose new works. Light refreshments will be
delivered from local restaurants at mealtimes along with
copious amounts of coffee, water, and snacks available
throughout the event

“MIX is a new and invigorating Gallery Ü Haul tradition
that is unique in the region. I believe this year’s event
is going to be a truly memorable celebration of art and
the creative process. I look forward to the experience,”
states founder Patsy Kline. For a tentative schedule of
events please see below or visit www.galleryucleveland.com

Gallery Ü Haul's Mission and Background:

Gallery Ü Haul’s mission is to openly discuss how we view
life and how the arts can foment positive social change by
powerfully evoking questions regarding creativity,
individuality, and social norms.

The concept for Gallery Ü Haul was generated by artist and
gallerist Patsy Kline whose Gallery Ü closed December
2005. After more than three years of dedication to the
ARTcade Project, located in the Colonial Marketplace
arcade, she decided to close her doors in lieu of a sports
complex.

“I felt like the art I had shown had been used and kicked
to the curb. I knew my landlord had been looking for a
developer but sports rendered the ARTcade Project
obsolete. And when the local press and Mayor Campbell —
who had been so supportive — stated the building had been
vacant it hit me. Since my artwork was essentially being
pushed into a U-haul why not express how transient the
arts had been treated by turning the U-haul into a
gallery. A simple, yet creative approach to express just
where art goes after being used as an economic engine,”
states Kline. With that being said, each installation
deals with the topic of “moving on”.

The potential of such an unconventional setting proved
endless in 2006 and turned out to be a perfect venue
encompassing a vast range of experimental endeavors that
in 2007.
