Exhibition Opening: "Ohio Watermedia Invitational; New Impressions"

Peninsula Art Academy Gallery, 1600 West Mill Street PO Box 171, =
Peninsula,
Ohio, 44264

This event is open to the public. This invitational exhibit features =
twenty
northeast Ohio artists, who specialize in working in watermedia. Various
directions of creativity, using watermedia, is the theme of the exhibit.
Watermedia includes transparent watercolor, gouache, egg tempera and =
acrylic
wash works. Brushstroke acrylics and watersoluble oils were not =
eligible
for consideration. All paintings are for sale with 30% going to support
Peninsula Art Academy, a 501c(3) promoting advancement of the arts in
Northeast Ohio. The exhibit will be open through September 1st, 2007,
Thursday thru Sunday, 11a to 5p. For more info, for directions, or for
groups to arrange special viewing times, please call 330-657-2248 or =
email
info at peninsulaartacademy.com
<http://us.f560.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=3Dinfo@peninsulaartacademy.c=
om> .

The exhibit features Sandra Dennison, Jack Mulhollen, Harriet Elson, Don
Getz, Tom Jones, Ann Ferguson Kah, Hal Scroggy, Kitty Waybright and =
Cathy
Welner of the greater Akron area. Thompson Lehnert of Kent, Frederick =
Graff
of Medina, and Barbara Zimmerman of Ashland are also exhibiting their =
recent
watermedia works. Cleveland area artists include Borys Buzkij of La =
Grange,
Susan Graham of Pepper Pike, Darlene Jackson of Hiram, Sally Heston and
Nicki Lanzi of Broadview Heights, Carol Prior of Chagrin Falls, and =
David
Rankin and Paul St. Denis of Cleveland.

Don Getz, serving as guest curator, explained that the tradition of =
matted
and framed watercolors displayed under glass is being challenged, as =
artists
look for new ways to present their works. Akron artist Marc Moon, now
deceased, was an advocate of using new methods for framing and =
presenting
watercolors. The advent of using acrylics has greatly enhanced this
opportunity, as many artists and patrons simply do not like the =
reflection
of glass disturbing the art image. Some contemporary works are not even
framed, but presented as self -contained shapes. Download and print

Faith Ringgold, an African American artist and author who produced much =

Upon
