OBERLIN, OHIO (August 13, 2007)=97David H. Stull, Dean of the Oberlin =20=

David Bowlin to the faculty. He joins the Division of Strings as =20
Assistant Professor of Violin.

Bowlin earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Oberlin in =20=

2000.

Winner of the first prize in violin at the 2003 =20
Washington International Competition for Strings, Bowlin has been =20
active internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. He has =20
performed extensively in New York City at such premier venues as =20
Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Zankel Hall, and the 92nd =20
Street Y.

A former member of the Naumburg Award-winning Da Capo =20
Chamber Players, Bowlin=92s four-year tenure with the ensemble included =20=

extensive tours in the former Soviet Union and the U.S. He is also a =20
founding member of the International Contemporary Ensemble, a =20
uniquely structured collective of composers and instrumentalists that =20=

has performed throughout North America and, most recently, in Poland =20
and Mexico. In April 2007, at Weill Recital Hall, Bowlin premiered =20
Mahagoni, a concerto for violin and string orchestra, which was =20
written expressly for him by Bulgarian composer Alexandra =20
Karastoyanova-Hermentin. In 2008, Bowlin will perform in a Musicians =20
from Marlboro tour with violist Kim Kashkashian.

Prior to joining the faculty of the Oberlin =20
Conservatory, Bowlin was teaching assistant for Ronald Copes =9271 at =20=

the Juilliard School. Bowlin received his Master of Music degree at =20
Juilliard in 2002, and is a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook =20
University.

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865 and situated amid =20
the intellectual vitality of Oberlin College since 1867, is the =20
oldest continuously operating conservatory in the United States. The =20
Conservatory is renowned internationally as a professional music =20
school of the highest caliber and has been pronounced a =93national =20
