Free Tremont Performances Complete His Tenure with Verb
  Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 8:00 p.m.
  Free Admission

Verb Ballets returns to Lincoln Park in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood on Friday, August 24 and 25, 2007, at 8:00 p.m. for the final performances of senior dancer and longtime Verb company member Mark Tomasic. The outdoor program features a solo piece for Tomasic, “Darkwood,” as well as Artistic Director Hernando Cortez’s madcap ballet “Polka Madness.” Heinz Poll’s (Ohio Ballet, 1926-2006) riveting “Bolero” and Cortez’s upbeat “Planet Soup” complete Verb’s family friendly Tremont program. Admission is free; audience members are encouraged to arrive early and to bring blankets or chairs. Rain date is Sunday, August 26. Lincoln Park is located between West 14th, West 11th, Kenilworth and Starkweather Avenues in the Tremont neighborhood, Cleveland, Ohio 44113.

"Having been a part of one of the most exciting arts organizations in Cleveland in decades, Verb Ballets, has been a true highlight of my career,” states outgoing company member Tomasic. “To have been there at the very inception of this incredible dance company and help shape its course gives me an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction and gratitude. Working under the inspired leadership of Hernando Cortez and Dr. Margaret Carlson has prepared me well for the new ventures that lay ahead. I feel especially blessed to have shared the stage with so many fine artists over the years and to have danced for the always appreciative audiences of Cleveland. I look forward to maintaining my relationship with Verb Ballets through future projects."

Mark Tomasic has worked with a variety of internationally renowned dance companies and choreographers throughout his career, including Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Tom Evert Dance Company, Cleveland San Jose Ballet, Ballet Contemporaneo de Buenos Aires and Dancing Wheels. With Verb Ballets, Mark has performed principal roles in the works of Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, David Parsons, Antony Tudor, Sean Curran, Heinz Poll and Verb Artistic Director Hernando Cortez. In Cleveland, Mark studied under Dana Snyder at Cuyahoga Community College and graduated cum laude from the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music, where he studied under the late, legendary James Truitte. Theatrical credits include work with Great Lakes Theater Festival and Cleveland Opera. On national television, Mark has been seen as Big Boss Man in Blue Suede Shoes (PBS), on The Drew Carey Show (ABC), and as a featured performer on Christopher Reeve: A Celebration of Hope (ABC). Mark
has been honored to create three works for Verb Ballets: The Memory Room, Before the Time After and Luis (commissioned by Hiram College), as well as works for Dancing Wheels’ first and second companies. Now in his fifth season with Verb Ballets, Mark also serves as the company’s Outreach and Education Coordinator. Mark joined Verb Ballets in 2002.

Verb’s Tremont performances are presented by Tremont West Development Corporation and Cleveland City Councilperson Joe Cimperman.
