ABOUT ART HOUSE

Art House, Inc., is a nonprofit art center, founded in 1999, and located in
historic Brooklyn Centre, between the Ohio City and Old Brooklyn
neighborhoods of Cleveland, Ohio. The organization was founded by local
artists and residents who are dedicated to the belief that the arts enrich
lives and help create better communities. Our 3,000 square foot studio
facility is housed in a 1948 domed Quonset building.

Our mission is to nurture involvement in the arts and culture, providing
opportunities for people to create, learn, and communicate ideas while
encouraging self-expression, thereby strengthening the community. Our
purpose is to provide high quality visual and creative arts classes for
people of all ages and skill levels. Our goal is to enrich the lives of
those that live in our community, to encourage and strengthen the careers of
local artists, and to promote learning through the arts.

1.  Studio Artist Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION: We are in need of a Studio Artist Assistant 6-10 hours a
week, 2 days a week, Tuesday and Wednesday from approximately 10:30 a.m. to
1:30 p.m September through May.   Some Monday mornings.   Pay is $10.00 an
hour. 

The Studio Artist Assistant will be part of the award winning Urban Bright:
Arts-in-Education program which serves students from the Cleveland Municipal
School District on site at Art House.  Art Classes from CMSD come to the Art
House facility to work with professional Visiting Artists for a 4 to 6 week
residencies.  The Studio Art Assistant should have experience with visual
arts, enjoy children, be creative, flexible, a collaborative team player and
organized.   

Varied duties include: 

Working with and assisting the Visiting Artist with set up and clean up,
ordering supplies, encouraging and working directly with students during the
creative process, chaperoning students to and from Denison School to Art
House.  Administrative tasks: preparing class syllabus, vocabulary lists,
and evaluating and summarizing programs.  Assisting with the coordination
and implementation of the year-end exhibition.

This position requires lifting and carrying.  The position also requires a
background check.

2.  General Art House Classes; Fall, Winter, Spring Schedule

Art House offers on going evening and day classes for adults, teens, and
children.  We are in need of dynamic teachers who can share their passion
about their mediums with others and encourage students self-expression.
There are Fall, Winter and Spring Classes.    Classes are taught at the Art
House Facility.  Materials are either supplied by Art House or students are
given a supply list in advance of classes.

Artists should contact Becky Cummings to propose curriculums in their
favored mediums.

3.  Urban Bright: Arts-in-Education Visiting Artist Residencies

2007-2008 Program Information

General Program Description

Our signature, award winning Arts-in-Education program Urban Bright began in
2002, responding to the needs of children in the Cleveland community where
the district is struggling with severe budget cuts that result in limited or
omitted arts education.  These schools all serve students who face serious
economic barriers to success.  In the Cleveland district nearly 100% of the
students live at or below the poverty level. 

The Visiting Artist Residencies are between 4-6 weeks.  Students learn
directly from professional artists from the community, creating large scale
works of art and using equipment and materials unavailable in the classroom.
Urban Bright residencies take place both on and off-site.  We estimate more
than 3,200 student/artist interactions with Urban Bright annually.

Urban Bright is currently engaged in a successful sixth school year: Through
this partnership, Art House and participating schools have an opportunity to
provide a higher quality of arts education, meet new educational standards,
and engage children in a life-long learning process.  Our program provides
artists with teaching opportunities while simultaneously supporting an
innovative youth outreach program that supports learning in the visual and
creative arts.   The artists Art House is contracting to work with in
2007-2008 are active in the regional arts community, and their exemplary
work renders them ideal role models for the at-risk youth Art House serves.
Artists must have reliable transportation and a background check is
required.

4. Art is Education Mask Making and Matisse Mobile Making Visiting Artist
Residencies

Partnership with Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio.

Two Day Residency

This innovative pilot program initiated YANEO and the Ford Foundation
engages Cleveland Municipal School District 3rd grade students in a creative
arts experience.  As a partner in this program Art House is offering CMSD
schools Mask Making and Matisse Mobile Making Visiting Artist Residencies.
The schedule varies as it is determined by CMSD teachers needs.  Art House
contacts Artists to fulfill residencies as they are scheduled.  Artists will
go directly into classrooms.  The original class room teacher will remain in
the room.  Art House teachers will engage the class with a dynamic lesson
that will include a brief history of the chosen medium as well as integrate
a vocabulary list of relevant aesthetic language.  Students will participate
in hands on project incorporating the academic lessons into experiential
knowledge.

Time: Two day residency workshop. 2 hours class time per day includes set-up
and clean up (called when needed)

Visiting Artists must have reliable transportation and will be responsible
for transporting supplies to and from Art House to school.  A background
check is required.

Art is Education is a K-12 initiative in collaboration with the Cleveland
Municipal School District that employs the arts to teach literacy. 

Vision and Goals
The Cleveland Integrated Arts Collaborative Art is Education envisions a
public school system where every student will receive the highest quality
education that includes continual immersion in a comprehensive, arts-infused
curriculum.  This curriculum will address the full range of children's
learning styles and all aspects of their human development, and result in
individuals prepared to be productive citizens and leaders of the future. 

5.  StudioGo: On and Off-site Programs and Classes

Art House offers creative and collaborative programs that are designed to
serve specific client/customers needs both on-site and off-site.   StudioGo
programs are available both during the day and evening.  Programs are from
one-day workshops to multiple day classes.  Art House will contract with
teaching artists to assist in developing curriculum and facilitate lessons
and/or workshops.

district nearly 100% of the students live at or below the poverty level. =

directly into classrooms.  The original class room teacher will =
remain in the
room.  Art House teachers will engage the class with a dynamic =
lesson that will
include a brief history of the chosen medium as well as integrate a =
vocabulary
list of relevant aesthetic language.  Students will participate in =
hands on
project incorporating the academic lessons into experiential =
