The Cleveland Play House Opens Season with Man of La Mancha=20
Starring Broadway Veteran Philip Hern=E1ndez
A new restaurant, Stages, debuts on September 14

CLEVELAND (August 22, 2007) -- The Cleveland Play House opens its =
2007-2008
season with one of the greatest musicals in American stage history: the
winner of five Tony Awards =96=20
Man of La Mancha. Preview performances begin on Friday, September 14 and =
the
production runs through October 7, 2007 in the Drury Theatre. =20

The Cleveland Play House and Sweetwater Restaurant Group, owned by Gary
Lucarelli, will officially open public restaurant in the former Play =
House
Club space on September 14. Stages at The Cleveland Play House will be =
open
for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays. =20

First produced in New York off-Broadway in 1965, Man of La Mancha is the
show that gave birth to =93The Impossible Dream,=94 dramatizing the =
story of
Cervantes=92 Don Quixote. This is The Play House=92s first production of =
Man of
La Mancha, and is sponsored by the Kulas Foundation.

=93Producing Man of La Mancha is another step in my quest to present =
classic
American musicals in innovative ways,=94 says Michael Bloom, Cleveland =
Play
House Artistic Director. =93And presenting it in the intimate Drury =
Theatre
will allow the director to bring the story that much closer to our
audiences.=94

Amanda Dehnert returns to The Cleveland Play House to direct La Mancha =
after
having staged the smash hit My Fair Lady last season.

=93I hope that Play House patrons will leave the theatre with a little =
piece
of Don Quixote awakened in their hearts,=94 says Dehnert. =93That is, no =
matter
what we have, we always have the power of our own convictions behind us =
=96
that faith can, in fact, move mountains, and that we as individuals =
always
have a choice about how we live our lives.=94

Presented in one act, The Cleveland Play House production of Man of La
Mancha will be led by Broadway veteran Philip Hern=E1ndez, the only man =
in
Broadway history to have played both Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert =
in
Les Mis=E8rables. Hern=E1ndez made his Broadway debut in the Original =
Cast of
the Tony-Award winning musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, directed by =
Harold
Prince. He has previously played Don Quixote in the Paper Mill Playhouse
revival of Man of La Mancha. In 2002, Hern=E1ndez released a Latin jazz =
CD
entitled =93The Beat of My Heart,=94 which Jazz Review called =93a gift =
from the
heart of one of America=92s great voices.=94

Making her return to The Cleveland Play House is Rachael Warren, who =
will
play the role of Aldonza. Last year, Warren starred in the Play =
House=92s My
Fair Lady as Eliza Doolittle; The Plain Dealer called her performance
=93radiant.=94=20
