Sprawling from Montreal to South Africa to China, Thom Fitzgerald's "3
Needles" is a great discussion tool for AIDS awareness. Three nuns =
(Chloe
Sevigny, Sandra Oh & Olympia Dukakis) are assigned to mission work in a
coastal South African village where they assist several young white =
doctors
struggling with the AIDS epidemic. That task is made more difficult by =
the
locals lack of AIDS education and superstitions. In China, Jin Ping =
(Lucy
Lu) pays residents $5 each for blood donations to sell on the black =
market.
Eventually an entire village falls ill after months of these unsanitary
blood draws. Finally, Montrealer Denny (Shawn Ashmore) helps support his
parents with a porno acting career. Mimicking the 1998 scandal around
real-life porn star Marc Wallice, Denny's screen escapades end when it's
discovered he's been faking negative test results. The Canton Palace =

self-deprecating,
but we know he takes himself pretty seriously. He is hardly a thoughtful =
or
sensitive husband, but he is devoted to Agnes. As for Agnes, she
occasionally hints at revolt from the conventions that restrict her but,
ultimately, she is content to be a forgiving wife. The show=92s =
best-known
song, My Cup Runneth Over, makes a beautiful cap to an argument.=20
