We had the pleasure of seeing Actors' Summit's opening show of the
season last night - and it was fabulous! Well written, well directed,
and beautifully acted. It's tough to do a 2-person show; you have to
be right on the money to keep the attention of the audience. Luckily
the two actors in "Rounding Third" (Keith Stevens and Daniel Taylor)
were both marvellous - so that the audience was riveted the whole time.
Supposedly a story about baseball, it's more a story of life. It's
amazing how many of the situations that came up regarding the
baseball season mirrored those of life in general. And yet, far from
being preachy, this play is hilarious from start to finish.
Stevens' intensity and enthusiasm for the game never faltered. This
was complemented by Taylor's low-key attitude. They make a perfect
team. Connie Thackaberry's direction was excellent, resulting in one
of the best nights of theater I've enjoyed in a long time.
