songs. Michael writes women=92s romance novels. He can be =
self-deprecating,
but we know he takes himself pretty seriously. He is hardly a thoughtful =
or
sensitive husband, but he is devoted to Agnes. As for Agnes, she
occasionally hints at revolt from the conventions that restrict her but,
ultimately, she is content to be a forgiving wife. The show=92s =
best-known
song, My Cup Runneth Over, makes a beautiful cap to an argument.=20

musicians who are interested in sharing the joys of Folk-Rock and Folk =

with their peers. The group will decide the future schedule, tentatively
planned for the third Wednesday evening of every month.

It will be hosted by Barry Be, a singer/songwriter who recently returned =

the area from his native Long Island, New York. As a lover of many forms =
of
Folk Music, especially Folk-Rock, Barry plans to host both amateur and
professional musicians as they explore the genres. To join in the fun,
participants are encouraged to bring their singing and instrumental =
talents
as well as equipment, including all forms of portable and easily set up
acoustic and electronic instruments, to the initial event. Participants
should also bring amplifiers, microphones with stands, and sheet music =

Children and teens who aspire to become professional dancers, or at =

Along with the pre-professional Ohio Youth Ballet, the school -- in its
fourth year now -- offers dance teams for students who are interested in =

range of dance disciplines.  Ask any dance instructor and he or she most
likely will tell you ballet is the foundation of all dance. Each dance =

member is required to take ballet, for which The Turning Pointe has =

prided itself in providing quality instruction. But students who are
passionate about hip hop or break dance or who dream of performing on
Broadway can gain experience with the dance team divisions. Students =

Midwest Visions of Impressionism Exhibit

The Massillon Museum=92s new second-floor exhibition, =93The New Face of
Watercolor:  A Conversation with the Past,=94 matches ten works of art =
from
the Museum=92s permanent collection with ten contemporary watercolor =
paintings
by Nancy Stewart Matin. The exhibition is now open and will continue =
through
October of this year.=20
Nancy Stewart Matin, a North Canton resident, is a signature member of =
the
Ohio Watercolor Society, and her work resides in the permanent =
collections
of several Stark County institutions including the Massillon Museum, =
North
Canton Library, and the Canton Museum of Art, where she serves on the =
board
of trustees. =20
The artist participated in the Massillon Museum=92s =93Adaptations=94 =
exhibition
in 2006.  She will demonstrate her painting technique at the Museum on
Sunday, August 19, between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m., in conjunction with the
closing of the =93Midwestern Visions of Impressionism: 1890=AD-1930=94 =

A self-taught artist, Nancy Stewart Matin uses a "pour=94 technique, a =
process
by which watercolor paint is mixed thinly with water and then poured =
through
various filters. =20
=94Watercolor has come a long way since days gone by,=94 says Matin.  =
=93It was
considered a study for serious painting to be created in oils, of =
course.=94
She explains that artists are no longer purists, using only transparent
watercolor paints.  =93We now paint in =91water media,=92 also employing =
gouache
(an opaque watercolor paint) and acrylic (whose origin is plastic. She =
says
this takes nothing from the art of the past.  =93We are what we are =
because of
what came before us. We have simply chosen another path: flinging, =
pouring,
freeing ourselves and our paint.=94
=94The New Face of Watercolor=94 may be seen during regular Museum hours
Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays 2:00 =

A first look at fifteen sculptures by fifteen Ohio artists throughout =

sculptural piece, =93Sacred Space=94 by Columbus artist Jim Bowling, =

visitors a first look at the community-wide exhibition. The map lists =

locates the additional sculpture sites. Each sculpture will be =

by a plaque with a brief description and a phone number to call for a =

The Canton Museum of Art is honored to present an exhibition of =
paintings by
Malvern's native son, Clyde Singer, entitled "Clyde Singer's America." A
book by the same name is to be published in time for the opening of the
exhibit. A direct descendant of the "Ash-Can School" of American =
artists,
Clyde never aspired to be a famous artist. His paintings of cityscapes =
and
his home pastoral images were his obsession. He left behind nearly 4,000
paintings when he died at age 91 in 1999. Many of these are found in
private, museum and corporate collections. The Canton Museum of Art =
honors
Clyde with a one-man show every decade and there are a number of his =
works
in our Permanent Collection. From his days as a "fill-in guy" for big =
sign
jobs in the 1920's, he labored through the Great Depression until 1931,
saving enough money to study at the Columbus Art School (now the =
Columbus
College of Art and Design). He earned a scholarship for his second year =
at
the Columbus Art School and then sent in some works to the Art Students
League in New York City. To his surprise, Singer was awarded a =
scholarship
and headed off to New York and fell in love with the big city. His story

SuperPass postcard to donors who have pledged $36 or more during the AIS
annual fund drive.=20

The cover of the card features the work of a Stark County (born, =

living) artist, while the back features the monthly discounts and a =

(75 words or less) bio and contact info of the artist. AIS has used work =
by
professional artists and students. The art needs to be saved in 300 dpi

thoughtful or sensitive husband, but he is devoted to Agnes. As for =
Agnes, she
occasionally hints at revolt from the conventions that restrict her but,

The Peninsula Art Academy =

sponsor a new event designed to engage area musicians who are =
interested
in sharing the joys of Folk-Rock and Folk Songs with their peers. The =
group
will decide the future schedule, tentatively planned for the third =
Wednesday
evening of every month.

It will be hosted by Barry Be, a singer/songwriter =
who
recently returned to the area from his native Long Island, New York. As =
a lover
of many forms of Folk Music, especially Folk-Rock, Barry plans to host =
both
amateur and professional musicians as they explore the genres. To join =

fun, participants are encouraged to bring their singing and instrumental
talents as well as equipment, including all forms of portable and easily =
set up
acoustic and electronic instruments, to the initial event.  =

should also bring amplifiers, microphones with stands, and sheet music =

stands for fullest enjoyment of the experience. While the event is being =

without cost—and while a refrigerator and ice is =

The Massillon Museum’s new second-floor =
exhibition,
“The New Face of Watercolor:  A Conversation with the =
Past,”
matches ten works of art from the Museum’s permanent collection =
with ten
contemporary watercolor paintings by Nancy Stewart Matin. The exhibition =
is now
open and will continue through October of this year. 
Nancy Stewart Matin, a North Canton resident, is a signature member of =
the Ohio
Watercolor Society, and her work resides in the permanent collections of
several Stark County institutions including the Massillon Museum, North =
Canton
Library, and the Canton Museum of Art, where she serves on the board of
trustees.   
The artist participated in the Massillon Museum’s
“Adaptations” exhibition in 2006.  She will demonstrate =
her
painting technique at the Museum on Sunday, August 19, between 2:00 and =
5:00
p.m., in conjunction with the closing of the “Midwestern Visions =
of
Impressionism: 1890=AD-1930” exhibition.  A $5 admission fee =
to the
painting demonstrations (also featuring Brian Robinson) will entitle =
guests to
an opportunity to win a painting. 
A self-taught artist, Nancy Stewart Matin uses a "pour” =
technique, a
process by which watercolor paint is mixed thinly with water and then =
poured through
various filters.   
”Watercolor has come a long way since days gone by,” says =
Matin.
 “It was considered a study for serious painting to be =
created in
oils, of course.”  She explains that artists are no longer =
purists,
using only transparent watercolor paints.  “We now paint in
‘water media,’ also employing gouache (an opaque watercolor =
paint)
and acrylic (whose origin is plastic. She says this takes nothing =
from the
art of the past.  “We are what we are because of what came =
before
us. We have simply chosen another path: flinging, pouring, freeing =
ourselves
and our paint.” 
”The New Face of Watercolor” may be seen during regular =
Museum
hours Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays =
2:00
to 5:00 p.m. through October 2007.  Admission to the Museum is =

The Canton Museum of Art is honored to present an =
exhibition
of paintings by Malvern's native son, Clyde Singer, entitled "Clyde
Singer's America." A book by the same name is to be published in =
time for
the opening of the exhibit. A direct descendant of the "Ash-Can
School" of American artists, Clyde never aspired to be a famous =
artist.
His paintings of cityscapes and his home pastoral images were his =
obsession. He
left behind nearly 4,000 paintings when he died at age 91 in 1999. Many =
of
these are found in private, museum and corporate collections. The Canton =
Museum
of Art honors Clyde with a one-man show every decade and there are a =
number of
his works in our Permanent Collection. From his days as a "fill-in
guy" for big sign jobs in the 1920's, he labored through the Great
Depression until 1931, saving enough money to study at the Columbus Art =
School
(now the Columbus College of Art and Design). He earned a scholarship =
for his
second year at the Columbus Art School and then sent in some works to =
the Art
Students League in New York City. To his surprise, Singer was awarded a
scholarship and headed off to New York and fell in love with the big =
city. His
story begins here. This exhibit runs through =

If you are an artist or know an artist who has some
connection to Stark County and would love the exposure of his/her work =
to 2,500
people …keep reading. Each month (from September through June),
ArtsInStark sends out the SuperPass postcard to donors who have pledged =
$36 or
more during the AIS annual fund drive.

The cover of the card features the work of a Stark =
County
(born, working, living) artist, while the back features the monthly =
discounts
and a short (75 words or less) bio and contact info of the artist. AIS =
has used
work by professional artists and students. The art needs to be saved in =
300 dpi
resolution as a pdf file; jpeg, etc.  The size is basically =
5” x
7”; horizontal or vertical image will work. If you or someone you =
know
wants to be on the upcoming cards ….please have them (or you) =

looking
for good holiday (Halloween, etc.) themes as well as just darn good =
