Actors’ Summit Receives Major Grant for
MEDEA
Actors’ Summit Theater announced the receipt of a major grant from the GAR
Foundation to support special daytime performances of the classic tragedy
MEDEA. The play, written by Euripides, is being performed in the version adapted
by the American poet, Robinson Jeffers. The grant provides subsidized and
free tickets as well as transportation for Summit County students from
economically depressed schools. The special performances are offered at 10:00 a.m.
October 22 through October 26 and October 29 through November 2. Discounted
student tickets are also available at all regular performances. The play will
have a preview performance on Thursday October 18, and will play through
November 4 at Actors’ Summit Theater in downtown Hudson. The play is performed
Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
“We are delighted to be able to partner with the GAR Foundation to make this
classic piece available to disadvantaged students,” said Neil Thackaberry,
Artistic Director. “Ohio’s educational standards have a classical mythology
component, and we hope this play will bring one of those myths to life.”
The Play
First produced in 431 B.C.E., this remarkable work of art has held the stage
for nearly two and a half millennia. Euripides, the author, is one member of
the trio of great Greek classical playwrights (the others being Aeschylus and
 Sophocles.)
The play is based on the myth of Jason and Medea. Jason, with his Argonauts,
sought Medea’s help in his quest for the golden fleece. Having succeeded in
his great adventure, Jason and Medea have settled in Corinth. Jason abandons
Medea to marry the daughter of Creon, the ruler of Corinth. Enraged, Medea
takes a terrible revenge on Jason and Creon.
Performance Schedule
Medea will have a preview performance on Oct. 18. The official opening on
Friday, Oct. 19 will be followed by a reception with the cast. Regular
performances continue through Nov. 4, Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.
and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
