> MGP Myth #1: You can't be that good, you only rehearse once a week.
> MGP Fact #1: There are many great church choirs and community choruses that rehearse once a week. If you think about it, there are 3 months of Fridays which is 12 rehearsals. If it were condensed, that would be 3 weeks of rehearsals. Having rehearsals once a week has it's advantages. a) All members have a week to prepare for the next rehearsal. Memorization is expected after the first blocking. b) There is not as much exhuastion with time to recuperate between rehearsals. (There is a tech week with rehearsals every day before opening night - equivalent to the 4th week of rehearsal elsewhere).
>
> MGP Myth #2: You can't be that good because you don't audition people.
> MGP Fact #2: It is true that the chorus is open to anyone who will make the commitment. It is true that the average chorus size is 90. It is true that not all of them have a lot of theatrical experience. However, the leads must audition. There are stronger theatre people who are interspersed with those with less experience in the chorus. In the end, you have a true community musical theatre event.
>
> MGP Myth #3: MGP casts the same people all the time - why audition?
> MGP Fact #3: Every theatre has their 'regulars'. Every director has 'their people' they know they can count on. However, our director this year, Bernadette Hisey, prides herself on making sure there are as many new faces as 'regulars' in the leading roles. Almost all of the new members to MGP have come from NEohioPAL.
>
> MGP Myth #4: MGP staff is made up of volunteers. How good can they be?
> MGP Fact #4: Do you need to be paid to be good? Here are the facts about the directors for 2008 -
> Bernadette Hisey, Director: Bachelors & Masters Degree in Music Education, elementary school music teacher. Past theatre experience includes drama director, pit director, chorus director, choreographer, accompanist, lead, supporting lead. Performed for Beck Center, Cain Park, CAMEO, Cassidy, JCC/Tri-C East, Lorain Community Musical Theater, MGP.
> Rick Fortney, Music Director: Bachelors & Masters Degree in Music, Director of Choral Activities at John Marshall HS, Music Director at Heritage Presbyterian Church (Amherst), Founder of TrueNorth Cultural Arts, past Director of Student Affairs at The Manhattan School of Music, Past performance experience includes the New York Choral Artists, Musica Sacra, Trevor Pinnock's Classical Band Chrus, The New York Concert Singers, The Julliard Singers, The National Chorale, The David Dussing Singers, and featured Soloist within the Calvary Baptist Chamber Concert Series.
>
> MGP Myth #5: You have to 'pay to play' with MGP.
> MGP Fact #5: You have to pay a deposit when given a script or score. When you return the script or score, your deposit is returned to you. This policy was set in place when a few MGPers kept their script/scores as souveniers, costing the company a great deal.
