Red {an orchestra} Celebrates Winter and the Holidays
Holiday concert will dazzle and delight, featuring local teen
virtuoso Caroline Goulding.

Cleveland, Ohio - Red {an orchestra} continues their sixth
spectacular season with “A Red Solstice” on December 8, 2007 at the
Pilgrim Congregational Church in Tremont and on December 9, 2007 at
St. Stanislaus Church in Slavic Village. As a follow up to their
critically acclaimed season opener, Red promises to dazzle and
delight with this special and unusual holiday program. This concert
features the works of two remarkable Italian composers and a special
arrangement by Red Artistic Director and Conductor Jonathan Sheffer
of Heinrich Schutz’s A Christmas Story, with soloists Soprano Jeun
Eun Oh and Countertenor Andrew Lippian, and a chorus prepared by
David Gooding. A special highlight will be a bracing performance of
Vivaldi’s “Winter” from “The Four Seasons”, performed by local teen
violin virtuoso Caroline Goulding. This program is presented twice
in two distinct and significant Cleveland churches.

The program opens with a work by early 20th century Italian composer
Ottorino Respighi. From his collection of works, Ancient Airs and
Dances, the orchestra will feature Suite No. 3. While Respighi’s
work was created during a politically turbulent time, it also gives
you a sense of the Old World and the comfortable feeling associated
with the holidays.

Perhaps there is no piece of music that suggests winter more than the
second piece on the program, Winter from Antoni Vivaldi’s The Four
Seasons. An early example of how music could be used to tell a
story, The Four Seasons describes the shifting moods of the seasons.
Red {an orchestra} is very proud to present the concerto Winter
featuring the young violin virtuoso Caroline Goulding as soloist.
Caroline has won many honors for her playing. At the age of 13, she
was among the youngest competitors and winners of the Aspen Music
Festival’s Violin Concerto Competition and most recently has won the
Cleveland Youth Orchestra’s Concerto Competition. She is now only 15
and is one of the most impressive talents in Cleveland today.

The final piece on the program is Heinrich Schutz’s A Christmas
Story. This special arrangement by Jonathan Sheffer is a reprisal of
one of Red’s most successful concerts. Schutz is widely regarded as
one of the greatest of 17th century German composers. Sheffer’s
version of Schutz’s oratorio seeks to sidestep centuries of
accumulated performance practices and return to the essence of the
work. Our performance will be in English, and will feature soloists
from the Cleveland area as well as a chorus directed by David Gooding.

Red is encouraging patrons to bring a non-perishable food item to
support the community food banks sponsored by the churches we are
performing in.

Tickets are available for $15, $35, $65, $90 and $110. For more
information, call Red {an orchestra} at 216.361.1733, or go online at
