PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS
Taught by local playwright/actor Sarah Morton 
 
In this 8-session intensive,  students will explore the fundamentals of 
playwriting,  including dramatic structure, story, theatrical language/ dialogue, 
and character development. Learn how to turn your ideas on the page into vivid, 
dynamic, and theatrical writing for the stage.  Discover your own unique 
voice as a playwright, in a small, supportive workshop setting. 
 
Workshop is geared towards beginning playwrights, but all levels of 
experience are welcome.   
 
Class meets on Monday evenings, from 6:30- 9 pm. 
*February 18- April 14   
(no class on March 24th)
at Loganberry Books on Larchmere Road., near Shaker Square, in Shaker 
Heights.   
 
* Students are expected to attend class regularly. Please check your 
schedules carefully before registering.  
 
Investment: $160, if registered by 1/31. 
$170 after 1/31.

About the instructor: 
 
Sarah Morton has been called ‘the Cleveland area's most consistently 
entertaining and intellectually satisfying playwright."  Her play, NIGHT BLOOMERS, was 
produced by Dobama Theatre, and presented as part of  Fusion Fest 2006 at The 
Cleveland Play House. She performed her solo piece, 4 MINUTES TO HAPPY at The 
New York International Fringe Festival and Cleveland Public Theatre, where it 
was nominated for a Northern Ohio Live Theatre Achievement Award and a 
Cleveland Theater Collective award for Best Actress.  Other  productions include  
THREE WORDS with Great Lakes Theatre Festival (tour),  NIGHT BLOOMERS with 
Emerging Artists Theater in NYC, and SAFETY at Dobama Theatre.  She has been an 
artist/teacher in residence at Cleveland State University, Cleveland School of 
the Arts, Shaker Heights High School, and Hathaway Brown School, and an 
education staff member at Cleveland Public Theatre, where she taught Writing for Solo 
Performance for beginning and advanced adult students.  For eight years, she 
taught and designed curriculum for The Cleveland Play House's Young Playwrights 
Workshop, a program for gifted high school writers.  This year's Big [BOX] 
series at CPT features three works that were begun or developed in one of her  
workshops.
