"Chagrin Arts" Series Continues with Concert Featuring Artists from the
Conservatory of Music

The Chagrin Foundation for Arts & Culture presents "Artists from Oberlin:
Darrett Adkins and Friends," the second program of its "Chagrin Arts" winter
series, on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. Featuring faculty musicians from the
Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the
United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls, 20 South Franklin Street. The
program includes the beloved String Quintet in C Major by Franz Schubert,
Beethoven's Sonata No. 1 in C Major, Op. 102 for cello and piano, and Six
Pieces for Solo Cello by Roger Sessions.

The program has been conceived and coordinated by Darrett Adkins, Oberlin
faculty member and one of America's foremost cellists. Joining him will be
fellow Oberlin faculty musicians David Bowlin and Marilyn McDonald on
violin, violist Karen Ritscher, Peter Takacs on piano, and cellist Amir
Eldan.

Mr. Adkins is a Juilliard-trained musician whose repertoire includes
classical to contemporary genres. His many accomplishments include debuting
Samuel Barber's Concerto for Cello with the Orchestra of St. Lukes at Alice
Tully Hall in New York and Pierre Boulez' Messagesquisse in Aspen; serving
as the Cellist of Honor at the Rio de Janeiro International Cello Encounter;
receiving the Cultural Arts Grant from the American Scandinavian Society;
giving the American premiere of Andrew Mead's Cello Concerto and the first
New York performance of Luciano Berio's Sequenza XIV; and helping to create
and premiere the new dramatic work, Schubert's Songbook, for Red {an
orchestra} in Cleveland. Since 1998, Mr. Adkins has been a member of the
Zephyr Trio featuring Lady Jeanne Galway and Jonathan Feldman, which tours
the U.S. regularly and recently performed the world premiere of Lowell
Lieberman's Piano Trio. Mr. Adkins has been on the faculty of Juilliard
School since 1995, and joined the faculties of the Oberlin Conservatory of
Music at Oberlin College and the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2003.
