*Cleveland (OH)* – *Karamu House artistic director*, *Terrence Spivey*, is
one of six selected African-Americans artists throughout the country to be
interviewed this Spring for the 2008 prestigious *Artist and Influence*, an
annual book published in New York City.  *Artist and Influence
(Hatch-Billops Collection Inc.)  *is popular amongst high school, college
and university students as well as professors, scholars and thespians within
the professional theater world.

Mr. Spivey joins a list of artist previously included in the annual text
such as *Frederick O'Neal*, the first Black Actors Equity president; *Butterfly
McQueen; *poet and playwright *Amiri Baraka; *director and
playwright*George C. Wolfe
*; renowned artist *Romare Bearden,* *Sonia Sanchez *and* Woodie
King*amongst others.

Mr. Spivey has been artistic director at Karamu for close to five
years.  *Karamu
House*, based in Cleveland, is *America**'s oldest Black theater established
in 1915* by *Russell *and* Rowena Jelliffe*.  Many artist nurtures their
talent at Karamu including poet laureate *Langston Hughes*,* the late Ron O'
Neal* *(Superfly)* *James Pickens Jr.* (*Grey's Anatomy*), *Debra
Byrd* (*American
Idol vocal coach*) and *Robert Guilluame* (*Benson*) , *Bill Cobbs* *(New
Jack City) *and teen actress *Imani Hakim* *(Everybody Hates Chris).*

Theater legend *Woodie King Jr.*, considered the *"father of Black theater*",
will interview Terrence Spivey before a live audience in* *New York City on*
**March 30, 2008*.
