In just a few short years, the musical theatre program at Baldwin-Wallace
College has gained a national reputation as one of the top such programs in
the country. Since 1996, when Victoria Bussert became the director of the
musical theatre program at B-W, she has been grooming exceptional talent for
Cleveland stages, as well as regional theatres, national tours, and
Broadway.

Bussert involves students in professional productions in the Cleveland area
in such venues as the Great lakes Theatre Festival, Cain Park and Carousel
Dinner Theatre. Assisting her are Nancy Maier, music theatre music director
and Scott Plate, program manager of music theatre and acting specialist.

B-W musical theatre grads have been, or are performing in national tours and
on Broadway. In April, Jill Paice, 2002, will open as Scarlett O"Hara in the
London premiere of a new musical of Gone With the Wind (directed by Trevor
Nunn).

Also in April, the seniors present their showcase for New York producers,
casting directors and agents in New York. Typically they receive literally
hundreds of inquires and most return to Berea already having signed with an
agent.

In May, B-W music theatre students will present the regional production of
Brooklyn the Musical, in a new collaboration with Playhouse Square.
