Good information, Al.

This website probably offers to do the legwork for someone seeking a copyright. Of course, in doing so, it's probably engaging in the unauthorized practice of law. Or, if copyrighting becomes problematic, they can no longer do anything more for you and suggest seeking counsel.

Copyrighting intellectual property gives notice to the world that you are the owner and originator of that property. You always have ownership of your work product even if you do not copyright it, it just can be difficult to demonstrate that without officially doing so through the Copyright office at the Library of Congress.

Any other legal or indepth questions can be directed to my email, learnedhand at live.com or my office 216-215-2397.

Most people believe that you own copyrights to your song from the time you apply for the registration. The actual rights to your song starts from the day it is written. Here is where it gets tricky. If a dispute ever arises where someone else says that they wrote the song, Having your song registered gives you the burden of proof needed to show the song belongs to you. The only place I would register a song is with the library of Congress copyright office http://www.copyright.gov/ . this other site may give you proof of you rights, but on the other hand it may not be around in a few years. Many web based businesses come and go. If they go under they will take your regisration with them. The Government run Copyright office isnt going anywhere, and it is the recognized keeper of records in the United States. Their word is absolute in a court of law.> > Al> > > --- On Thu, 6/12/08, Evelyn Carr <ecarr1957 at sbcglobal.net> wrote:> > > From: Evelyn Carr <ecarr1957 at sbcglobal.net>> > Subject: [NEohioPAL] SongRegistration> > To: neohiopal at listserve.com> > Date: Thursday, June 12, 2008, 12:05 PM> > Does anyone have any feedback on a web site called> > SongRegistration.com?> > ______________________________________> > NEohioPAL is SELF-SERVE.
