Weathervane Community Playhouse

seeks to hire a part-time

Costume Shop Supervisor/Resident Costume Designer/Wardrobe Manager

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

-- Training/experience in costume design and/or costume construction.

-- A background in theatre arts and costume history is helpful.

-- Strong communication and supervisory skills.

-- Highly organized, efficient and detail-oriented.

-- Reliable, flexible and friendly.

-- Exceptional time-management and budgeting skills required.

-- Strong sewing skills (machine sewing, hand sewing and mending techniques).

-- Proficiency in fitting, draping and pattern-drafting skills a plus.

-- Experience with the rental of costumes, wig/hair, crafts, and dyeing helpful.

-- Creative, innovative, with a trained eye for theatrical style.

Duties/Responsibilities

Candidate must possess the ability to work a variety of shifts, including some evenings and weekends.

Shop Supervisor:

-- Schedule/supervise/recruit/train all volunteer costume staff.

-- Oversee construction, fittings, purchases, and/or rentals of all costumes.

-- Maintain costume shop and its equipment, stock and supplies; process donations.

-- Facilitate communication among costumers, staff, directors and actors.

-- Assist in development of costume budgets and play selection.

Costume Designer:

-- Capable of designing any or all of the theatre's productions; responsible for overall costume design in the absence of a volunteer designer for any given production; supervise/assist/recruit/train volunteer designers.

-- Use script analysis, historical research, costume sketches, production meetings, costume plots, fittings and technical rehearsals when designing.

Wardrobe Manager:

-- Responsible for basic maintenance, repair and laundry duties; striking/restocking as needed.

Hours: 20 hours per week (flexible schedule)

Pay Rate: $10 per hour

Start Date: August 1, 2008
