June 23, 2008 – A highlight of the Cain Park Evans Amphitheater summer season is the annual Inlet Dance Theatre performance. Returning for its eighth year, Inlet Dance Theatre is delighted to present a dynamic program showcasing professional dancers alongside students from its Summer Dance Intensive (SDI) – a multi-week instructional camp for dancers of all ages and experience levels. “For weeks, the SDI students have been hard at work training in anticipation of performing alongside the professional Inlet company members at Cain Park,” commented Inlet Artistic Director Bill Wade. “They have exhibited increasing skill with great dedication which has helped them be transformed from a group of diverse students into an ensemble. Inlet once again is looking forward to an energetic crowd that will come to discover how Inlet’s vision of ‘using dance to further people’ is achieved.”

Highlighted works from the professional Inlet company members include: “Out of Nowhere,” by tantztheatre choreographer Stephen Wynne, “Tides and Solitude,” an award winning piece of choreography by Sally Wallace, and “Dances from Rapa Nui,” celebrating Inlet’s recent international artist exchange experience with the indigenous peoples of Easter Island. Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive students will also premier a new work by Leilani Barrett, a Cleveland born entertainer currently working in Los Angeles.

A repertory program of several works featuring SDI students will be staged at Cain Park. A partial list of these works includes: “At the Scent of Water” – celebratory piece from company member Leila Pelhan, joyfully expressing life in dance; an exploration of the strength of gentleness and love as a form of masculinity by company member Joshua Brown entitled “Qualities of Gentlemen”; company member Rebecca Inman’s “Grandma’s Hands,” honoring the wealth of wisdom in our elderly generation; and “Coming Home” by company member Allison Prucha, illuminating the strength needed in the pursuit of truth, showcasing Inlet Dance Theatre’s ’07-08 Trainee Program Members.

Inlet’s Summer Dance Intensive performances at Cain Park are perhaps the most comprehensive representation of the company’s mission of “using dance to further people”. Disparate students of various ages, races, backgrounds and skill sets travel to Cleveland Heights from international, out of state, and throughout the Greater Cleveland area to learn about dance in an empathic environment. The purposeful preparation for the Cain Park performances develops not only an increased skill set in various forms of dance and composition, but also life skills such as, teamwork, trust, respect, self-discipline, social interaction and self-confidence in the students. Inlet company member performances further express to students & audience members the dedication and talents required to choose dance as a profession and how the art of dance speaks creatively about life and issues we all face. Inlet Dance Theatre will perform at Cain Park Evans Amphitheater: Wednesday, July 23th at 1:00 p.m. (a KidzArt matinee) and a full concert on Thursday, July 24th at 8:00 p.m. Admission is FREE. Cain Park is located at the intersection of Lee Road and Superior Road in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Visit www.cainpark.com.

Inlet Dance Theatre wishes to thank the Friends of Cain Park, Cleveland Heights/University Heights City School District, Inlet’s Board of Trustees and individual donors to Inlet.
