The Cleveland Play House will hold auditions for children in A Christmas Story on Monday, August 18 from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Cleveland Play House, and Wednesday, August 20, from 4:00 to 8:00 at Actors' Summit Theatre. The auditions are for children only. We are looking for boys and girls of any ethnicity who can play a nine year old, and one boy who can play a five year old (the actor who plays five should probably be older in reality). The auditions are open to both union and non-union actors; no children will become union as a result of being in A Christmas Story.

Rehearsals begin November 4 and performances are November 28-December 21. Nothing will take place on Thanksgiving Day. The commitment will in general not conflict with school; you will be notified well in advance of any times that the actors will be asked to miss classes for rehearsals or performances. All rehearsals and performances will take place at the Cleveland Play House. All children will receive a weekly salary for all rehearsals and performances.

While the auditions are open to any child who wishes to be considered, they will be by appointment only. To make an appointment, please respond to this email. Please provide the name of the child, the name and contact information for at least one parent, and a preference for date and time. We will accommodate preferences to the best of our ability.

For the audition, the child should prepare up to three minutes of anything they wish. What is most common is one or two monologues. There is no singing in the play and there will be no pianist at the audition, but children who wish to do so are welcome to sing.

The Cleveland Play House is located at 8500 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland. The Actors' Summit is located at 86 Owen Brown Street in Hudson. Again, please respond to this email to make an appointment or ask any questions.
