Oberlin College's Theater and Dance program will host University of Utah
professors Pamela Geber and Eric Handman, September 16 through 20, 2008 for
a guest artist residency. Geber and Handman will do a variety of master
classes with Oberlin students in the dance program. Eric Handman will also
set his trio, *Voce,* on a cast of students who will perform the dance in
concerts later this year. The week will conclude with a concert featuring
Geber and Handman on Saturday, September 20 at 8:00 pm, entitled *Palpate:
An Evening of Dance, Film, Duets and Solos*. The performance is in Warner
Center Main Space at* *30 North Professor Street, Oberlin, OH 44074. It is
free and open to the public.

The concert features work by Geber and Handman as well as dances by
acclaimed choreographers David Dorfman and Susan Marshall. Geber and Handman
will perform *approaching no calm*, a provocative duet by
internationally renowned choreographer, David Dorfman. Set to Seattle
composer and vocalist Amy Denio's emotionally charged score, the piece
originally appeared at the Joyce Theater in New York City in 1995, featuring
Dorfman and partner Lisa Race. Geber and Handman will also perform a duet
from Susan Marshall's acclaimed larger work, *Interior with Seven
Figures*that originally premiered in 1988 at the Brooklyn Academy of
Music's Next
Wave Festival in New York. Set to a haunting, ambient score by Luis Resto,
this particular excerpt is in high demand around the world and continues to
be a part of the Susan Marshall Dance Company's repertory. Handman's
existentially minded short film, *Dark Room*—permeated by themes of
isolation, fragility and mortality—adds a multi-media dimension to the
program. Geber will also perform a new solo work entitled *The House is
Quiet*, inspired by an insomniac's distorted sense of time and imagination.

Pamela Geber has danced professionally with Sara Rudner, David Gordon, Wendy
Perron, Fred Darsow and in recent works by Doug Varone, Mark Dendy, Zvi
Gotheiner, David Dorfman, Susan Marshall and Stephen Koester. Currently an
Associate Professor of Dance at the University of Utah, she teaches modern
and ballet technique, improvisation, dance kinesiology, advanced principles
of teaching, and is co-director for the department's Performing Dance
Company.

Eric Handman was a company member of Doug Varone and Dancers,
nicholasleicheterdance and Joy Kellman and Company and has performed in
repertory by Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Stephen Koester, David Dorfman,
Susan Marshall, Lisa Race, Pooh Kaye, Wendy Perron, Simone Forti, Debra
Fernandez, Tim Harling & Lisa Giobbi, Eun Me Ahn and Koosil Hwang (Kumiko
Kimoto). An Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Utah, he
teaches modern technique, composition, improvisation, dance for camera,
research methods as well as philosophy, aesthetics and criticism.
