Other People's Money

is the title of a Neil LaBute play we did some years ago.
The basic premise expressed here is that, no matter what definition of loyalty and
integrity you may have displayed on casting and contract, it comes down to the
highest bidder and screw the producer and the contract.

When, all of a sudden, those greenbacks start flashing, then
LaBute hit the title right on the head - other people's money has turned you into
a member of the world's oldest profession.

Maybe Actors' Equity should tighten up their rules so they don't leave such a bad taste in producer's mouths for engaged actors who skip. And if they don't then it will all be for money. I guess that during these times, money is both wonderful and disgusting, depending on which of your last virtues you sold for it.
Hang in there, Greg - and Julia. Albee is worth it, as George and Martha so soundly
attest. For every window closed, a large door opens.

Cesear's Forum to suspend Edward Albee's Marriage Play

Cesear's Forum, Cleveland's small professional theatre, finds itself in the midst

of contractual vicissitude and the regrettable position of "the show must go on" - later!

With casting approval by Edward Albee, the company was in the midst of rehearsing his

two-person Marriage Play, slated to open October 10th.  With a sudden change of heart,

one of the principle Equity actors accepted a more lucrative commercial offering.  "It

happens all the time," according to Artistic Director Greg Cesear, "but our salaries and

artistic opportunities are never in question when casting."  Future production dates have

yet to be announced but early spring seems most likely.
