I read in the PD this morning that longtime actress Mary Dismuke died. Her wake is at 6 PM this Friday at E.F. Boyd Funeral Home, 2165 East 89th Street, with funeral to follow at 7 PM.

I met Mary through Sue H. Johnson at Wake Up and Lives Actors Studio where she participated in Play Acts and other work we did there.

Mary got her start through Karamu House. She was seen by John Kenley years ago and was invited to audition for Kenley Players where she worked for years with many stars. Mary once told me she enjoyed portraying maids in plays like "The Women" because the authors always made her character the foil to the lead giving her sassy dialog. One of her favorite musicals was Truman Capote's "House of Flowers."

Mary was (and still is in transition) a beautiful woman who was professional in her craft and enjoyable to work with. It was great to have known her.
