*SOLON** **CENTER** FOR THE ARTS ANNOUNCES FIRST ANNUAL PLAYWRITING
COMPETITION*



Solon Center for the Arts will be holding its First Annual Playwriting
Competition in January, 2009. In an effort to give new voice to the youth of
Northeast Ohio, SCA proudly presents this opportunity to students in grades
7 through 12.  This exciting competition will give applicants a chance to
submit their own short piece of drama based on the theme of *"Everyday
Adventures"**.* These pieces will then be considered for potential
production at SCA in the spring of 2009.



            Students who are interested in entering this competition but are
unsure of where to start can refer to the SCA's winter catalogue. SCA will
be offering workshops in playwriting to help encourage students in the
creation of their own works.



            Once all submissions are collected, a panel of qualified judges
will choose up to three plays to be produced by SCA. These productions will
be performed by the SCA Spotlight Youth Theater students in grades 5 through
8 on Friday, May 29, 2009. Students interested in auditioning to be in one
of these productions should also refer to the SCA catalogue.



            Submissions can be sent to the attention of Ms. Christine A.
Prince, Theater Education Coordinator by mail to Solon Center for the
Arts, 6315
SOM Center Road, Solon, Ohio 44139. They may also be emailed to Ms. Prince
at cprince at solonohio.com.  All submissions should be typed (no more than 10
pages in length) and sent with the playwrights name, age, phone number and
email address. Entries must be received no later than 4:30 pm on Friday,
January 23, 2009. Students may enter one piece for consideration and there
is no fee to enter.  The winners will be announced on Friday, February 27,
2009.
